Guest guest
Oh ...((HUG))...I'm so sorry to hear this! I have so much wrong with my neck I am afraid to try a chiro., plus was warned from my first lawyer to be careful of even going for a massage because he went for one while I was using him and he got his vertibre cracked. Then I needed to find a new lawyer. All the doctors I have seen have told me not to do this too, so I can't offer anything about chiro's, I know that uses and swears by hers...but sounds like you had a very bad reaction to it and I don't know if maybe it's something that you shouldn't be doing. Bummer! What is it that you do when you get your migraines? Do you take medication for them? Myself...I've got four different ones depending on the headache and the severity of them. Besides that, I would suggest first a hot shower using a shower massage with pulsation, if someone can help you run it up and down your spine for 10 - 15 minutes as hot as you can stand it. This helps to relax the tightened muscles and open things up. Then go straight to bed and lay as flat and still as you can, ice helps at this point and darkness...do you have muscle relaxers? lidoderm patches? if so use them too with your neck brace since this is where your headache is coming from. My doctor also suggested using oxygen therapy...but not many have that available unless you know a scuba diver. I also use an inversion table at a slight tilt to help relieve some of the pressure. When I do this when I have a headache I feel better that way, but when I come back up it comes back. But it's still good for relieving the pressure and sometimes that will help the headaches feel better. I have been known to fall asleep on mine, it's comfy! Hope you start feeling better...I'd be scared to go back to hun! I think you should call her first and tell her what happened if you haven't done this yet. She may want to see you though but be extra careful if you let her touch you, whatever she did was too much, it'll have to be a lot less.. Good Luck !!! Feel Better Soon!! Guest guest
Hi , I'm currently seeing a chiro for my back and neck pain. Before answering your questions, I've got an important one for you. Did the chiropractor take a full set of x-rays before doing anything to your neck? If not, I would NOT go back and find a new Chiropractor! I have subluxation degeneration in my back. My cervical vertebrae is in a late phase one/almost phase two. What that means is I'm borderline for him to be able to fix it and return it to normal. Phase one is misalignment and malfunction with soft tissue damage and nerve irritation. The prognosis: return to near normal may be expected with appropriate chiropractic care. Phase two is disc narrowing, calcium deposition, bone spurs, and nerve irritation. Prognosis: slowing or stopping may be expected with appropriate chiro care. My mid back is toward the normal side of phase one. My lower back is toward phase two but not as bad as my neck. My symptoms were severe headaches, severe burning and stabbing pain in my neck and between my shoulder blades, hip pain and lower back soreness with any exercise or movement, even shopping! He said my nerves were badly pinched and as a result my muscles were all out of whack. We traced all this back to a car accident I was in about 18 years ago. Since that accident, I had neck pain that came and went and about two years ago, I went to my primary doc and she gave me muscle relaxers. That helped but only temporarily and the pain ended up never going away thus causing a lot of lost sleep. From your description, it sounds like your chiropractic care will take a lot of visits to relieve your pain. Since you have arthritis, you won't be able to return to a normal state. Phase three, the worst phase, is as follows: joint immobilization, bone fusion, nerve atrophy, and scar tissue. Prognosis: Slowing or stopping may be expected with appropriate chiropractic care. I can scan in the sample x-rays and send them to you with the other info I got from my chiropractor. I also got a really cool nerve function chart that shows symptoms that may be present when there is interference with the nervous system. My major problems are in my C 6 & 7, T 8, and L 5. Look for a chiropractor that also offers massage therapy. I have to have that as well to work out the muscle problems I'm having. The first " massage " I got made me hurt so badly I could even stand to have my shirt on my back! The Rx? ICE ICE ICE! Ice for 20-30 minutes every hour. Once the inflammation is down, you can add the heat (alternate between heat and ice), but do NOT add heat until the inflammation is down! If you do, it'll only make the inflammation worse! The chiro probably didn't hurt the discs more but when they adjust your neck back into alignment, the muscles can and do spasm (that's from the inflammation and that they have to re-learn how to balance your neck and keep it in alignment). My neck didn't really begin to feel better until the third visit. I still get headaches, but now when I ice, the headache isn't nearly as bad and sometimes goes away. Even though the massage hurt like the dickens, my headache did go away for half the day. My second massage therapy is tomorrow. I'll let you know how that goes. My neck has been hurting pretty badly today. I couldn't get in to the chiro last Friday (local festival and the office closed early Friday and wasn't open Saturday). So, to sum it up, so far I think the chiropractor has helped my neck and back pain a lot but I would never have had any chiro doc touch me without a full set of x-rays! Joi Neck Pain & Chirpractors Hi, I wanted to hear from people with neck problems who have tried a chiro. I have 3 bulging discs, spondylosis in each level, facet disease in several levels and osteoarthritis in several levels of my cervical spine. I've been getting these monster migraines and have muscle knots in my neck. I went to a chiro last Friday and we talked about how she does things way more low key and gentle with people that have fibro and disc problems. It went ok while I was there but I ended up with a bad headache that night and Sat. am I woke up with a migraine and my upper back and neck hurt sooo bad, felt like someone just beat me with a baseball bat over and over, and I got 2 more migraines Sat & Sun. I am scared to death to go back to see her today!!! COuld she have hurt the discs more? Or more llkely hurt the muscles in my neck causing all the extra pain & migraines?? Guest guest
HI JW, This is by far the most through and finest post I have read thus far on this site! It was sound and intelligent and well versed on the condition as described and literate in your presentation. Thank you for this post. Guest guest
, Why do people go to these so called Dr's? They in my opinion are just wannabe Dr's who could not get into medical school. And I have heard more nightmare stories about them and the harm they can do with the manipulations --- and those X rays do not show much. Chiros can not give a prescription for a MRI at all-- and that is the best diagnostic test one can have for any issue on the back and neck. Or for that matter any place on the body. If you are having anything wrong with the cervical region as well as lumbar, get an MRI. Perhaps I am being naive and ignorant but I went to a chiro once and he was totally inappropriate in his conduct and his practice. Guest guest
I, personally have not and will not see a chiro because my back is already a mess, I don't need worse problems. I did see a chiro years ago when I hurt my neck, and at least he had the decency to be honest with me and said he wouldn't touch my neck. If they are a " good " chiro they will do the same for you. I do have a friend that saw a chinese medical doctor for treatment of fibro and her neck injuries which caused her to have severe migraines. She reports that she got excellent results from this as a matter of fact is going again due to some increase in her symptoms of fibro. She saw him the first time years ago and was very satisfied with her results and she is a very articulate and not am impulsive person, so for whatever that is worth it is one person's experience. I hope that you get some help because headaches can be very draining on oneself. I had very severe headaches from a myelogram that leaked dye into the meninges in 92, but after about a year they went away. They never suggested things such as a blood patch back then, go figure! Guest guest
Gail, I just wanted to agree with you. (Plus as soon as I hit the send button before my whole puter blipped out on me and went out, had to come back and make sure it's working after a total crash last week). I have gone to chiro's...just along for the ride with someone else but picked their brain while I was there...I haven't found anyone that was wanting to touch my bad areas - neck and back - I think they can do a lot for people who don't have serious injuries, and if they are a good chiro...but I have also heard some bad horror stories from people through out the years of sitting in doctors offices waiting for my turn. I can't remember, I think it was called Network Chiropractics...but read about that and sounded good...I no longer remember what it said, LOL, but it did sound good then! Guest guest
Thanks Ann. This was from the materials my chiropractor gave me. He showed where I am on the charts, what can be expected and what he needs to do. He also gave me a chart on what kinds of symptoms each section of the spine can cause. He also says to have a physician check for the physical reasons first and if/when they don't find anything physically wrong with you then go to the chiropractor. He had a patient in his office that had major problems holding food down. The docs did all kinds of tests and found nothing so sent him on his way saying that nothing was wrong with him. I had this happen to me as well but it was hip pain, snapping, and popping, which it still snaps and pops but the pain is mostly gone unless I over do which stresses my lower back. I had tests run and they said my hip was fine. I'm not positive the popping and snapping would be considered normal, but the pain is gone! Back to the other patient. He decided to get chiropractic care and once he got to the place where his back was aligned, he could then eat again! It doesn't really surprise me that this could happen because when you think of it this way: the spine carries all the nerve pulses from the brain to the rest of the body (and back) and if any one (or more) of the nerves are being pinched, either by a vertebrae or bulging disk, then you will have some kind of a physical problem, whether it be numbness, pain, or any other physical response to that nerve being pinched. Regular physicians don't look at alignment. They look at the bones (looking for fractures). When I had my car accident 18 years ago, I was taken by ambulance to the nearest hospital (NOT a great one). It was a small hospital and not very advanced. They did take x-rays of my neck and upper back. They said nothing was broken and to wear the cervical collar for a week or longer if needed. Nobody ever suggested I see my regular doctor, an ortho doctor, or a chiropractor to check for alignment. That's how small this hospital was! So, for the next 18 years, I've been dealing with the pain on and off with it being on for the last two years. Hubby convinced me to see this chiropractor and it was the best decision ever! He took one look at me and said " You are hurting bad and you need help! " Needless to say, I cried that a doc would even say that to me. I wish all docs were like this guy! Guest guest
There are definitely good ones and definitely bad ones. I went to an ortho doc here for a long time and he refused to order an MRI for me. There are good ones there and bad ones as well. Perhaps I am being naive and ignorant but I went to a chiro once and he was totally inappropriate in his conduct and his practice. Guest guest
There are definitely good ones and definitely bad ones. I went to an ortho doc here for a long time and he refused to order an MRI for me. There are good ones there and bad ones as well. Guest guest
Hi Debbie, Thanks for the reply...I did call the chiro and talk to her; she is very nice and I feel she truly does care about her patients. She had looked over my MRI's before she did the massage and adjustment and we talked about the fibro; everything was done very gently but she said with having so many chronic pain conditions that she must have still really aggravated things. She said normally she tells people who get sore after that after a couple times that will go away but for me she wasn't so sure. I had to tell her again that this was wau beyond " sore " ! For my migraines I also have 2 different meds to take and a muscle relaxer. Once I have one I can't do anything but lay still in bed with a pillow over my head and ears. IF sleeping and the meds don't work then I lay in the tub with my head totally submerged under water, just my nose and eyes out, and that takes the pressure away and feels so good, until I come up. Migraines have to be one of the most painful things! These migraines that I've been getting lately I call monster migraines because I also get severe pain in my neck from them. I hope you are feeling as well as can be! Hugs, > > Oh ...((HUG))...I'm so sorry to hear this! Guest guest
Hi Joi, Thank you for all this information!! I'm glad you are getting some pain relief! My chiro did not take x-rays of my neck but she was able to get my MRI off the computer so we talked about that. I did call her to talk to her about what happened after seeing her and she really thinks it's the fibromyalgia flaring things up. I'm back to " normal " now and don't ever want to go thtough that again so I don't know yet if I'm going to try it again. Guest guest
Hi Gail, Thanks for sharing your experience. How would you find a chinese medical Dr and what do they do? I have a feeling most of my neck pain and headaches/migraines stem more from the fibro then the neck/disc issues. hugs, > > I, personally have not and will not see a chiro because my back is > already a mess, I don't need worse problems. Guest guest
Thank you Joi for that inclusive email. I still would not go to a Chiro-- I am convinced that they are hoodoo Dr's just like New Age religions use crystals for energy sources. But we are always looking for alternative answers to medicine. I watched my own father who suffered tremendously after being interred for 5 years in a JAP prison camp during WW-2-2 go through many branches of medicine-- all kinds of alternative medicine and practices--buying into their scams: pills, herbs, ridiculous machines that snapped, clicked, potent drinks, you name it at his age of 88 he has tried it all and nothing helped his pain until he had neck fusion and about 8 epidurals. It was ridiculous and sad to watch a high IQ-ed man get sucked into such RIF RAF. I think that nerve pain is perhaps the hardest to treat. Take care sweetie, Annie JW <joyfulfeathers@...> wrote: Thanks Ann. Has anyone had good results from a chiro with neck problems? Thanks and I hope everyone has a great day!! Guest guest
I'm glad the migraine is gone and you're feeling better! It's very good that she looked at your MRI. I didn't have one for my whole back, just the hip. ParrotsofWA-Support Re: Neck Pain & Chirpractors Hi Joi, Thank you for all this information!!
