Hey all, I called and made an appointment with the Dr. that I have been going to see. I told his receptionist that I wanted him to do some reading up on CMT and that I wanted to talk to him about it. I need something for the pain. So hears hoping this good Christian D.O. will listen and understand our situation until the next month or so. I will keep you posted, especially you Sue. I know you are going through hell with doctors right now. Maybe you can find an understanding doctor that will listen to you. Hopefully mine wont think the same. We don't have any insurance at the moment and I am afraid if I am officially diagnosed before we get some that I wont be able to get Any later. The insurance that I signed up for through my job, cost $116.00 a week and I usually make only about $200.00 or so, depending on my case load. Thus I had to drop it just to keep beans and 'taters on the table. Walmart and Home Health aids don't make a whole lot unless they work themselves to exhaustion. Susie Ps, Even spell check doesn't have CMT in its memory! Peace To ALL and Happy Holidays!! __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Sue, Jim and those that asked about ankle surgery, I went to see Dr. D.O. this morning. Believe it or not he is one of the VERY few that sees patients on Saturdays. I he apologized to me twice, one for not noting that there was CMT in my family and that he missdiagnosed me as have Raynaud's Phenomenon. He pulled out his book and read up a little on it while I dangled on the couch. Looked at my ankles, legs, hands and fingers. My legs are fine, no muscle loss, **the ankle surgery 15 years ago most likely helped there**. He stated that in the mild forms that the symptoms don't really show up until later years as in my case and Jims. My hands are the problem now. He looked at my left hand and wanted to know how he had missed seeing it a couple of weeks ago when I went in for hand pain. My thumb has a visible hitch in it. The first joint actually clicks when I bend it and most of the time I have to actually look at it to bend it. The tendon is standing out just below the heel of the thumb in the lower web. Let me explain about this doctor. One, he is an Osteopath that deals with bones and joints. ONE, he is a Christian at all times. Two he is one of the most unorthodox doctors I have ever met in my life. He dispenses some medication from his office, as the price to his patients are a lot more expensive if they have to go to a Pharmacy. My cost today was $66.00 for 2 bottles of Darvocet and 2 bottles of Motrin, and his office visit. He does not have narcotics! But will write a prescription IF he agrees that you really need it for any medication that he doesn't have. Three, he wears shorts and a Hawaiian shirt, and has most of his equipment in one small room with an receptionist in another " Larger than a closet " office. He does not carry malpractice insurance and you sign a paper stating that you know this fact. That keeps his over head very low. Four, He will not officially diagnose me until we get our insurance straightened out but will help me deal with the pain and aggravation. AND pray for all of us here in this group. I gave him the www's for what I have and he is going to look at them tomorrow after church. FIVE, His last statement to me as I was leaving was " NEVER GIVE UP HOPE!!! " He gave me a brochure on IONIC CORAL CALCIUM that he wants me to try. On the front it says " LIVE LONG, LIVE HEALTHY, PAIN FREE! " If I find this Calcium I will try it. If any of you want to read it I will transcribe it and post it as a file. Any questions or comments about the above? I will give my best effort to answer. I think his last statement did me more good than the thought of a pain free night of sleep Well folks, as Porky says " Tttthat's all Fffolks " Susie - __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Susie this guy is wonderful. Okay he doesn't know a lot but he is prepared to investigate which is brilliant and the fact that he is honest enough to admit to his mistakes and apologise. Living in the UK I find it difficult to understand your medical costs as we pay for ours through our taxes but it sounds as if this guy is helping you financially as well. You rest now and have a wonderful Christmas - you deserve it. Love and hugs Sue The important thing is never to stop questioning.
