I would go to him about the thyroid deficiency, as he was listed as a contact person when I called about an article on thyroid deficiency in Alternative Medicine magazine. He supposedly knows the intricacies of treating it right, and that many people who are in the "normal" range, but on the low side, are indeed, in need of supplementation. I would request to be put on Armour thyroid, which is a natural thyroid in contrast to any of the synthetic thyroid hormones. He would probably choose that anyway. You can start low and work up to a dose that works for you. They do not sell Armour thyroid in Mexico, only the synthetic pharmaceuticals. My TSH level has always been borderline low, yet none of my docs have suggested thyroid supplementation. Ever since I have became sick, my metabolism has decreased and my weight has increased. When I see my rheumy on Thurs, I'm going to ask him about taking Armour. Do you know of anyone who has had a decrease in weight as well as increased metabolism while on thyroid meds. " That was based on my experience from going down there and searching for it. I ended up having to pay a Mexican doctor to write me the prescription, and then going back to the American side to get it filled. I do not know the specifics of the weight gain or loss, however, or their pain issues. I myself have never had a weight problem, (except for about 5 pounds in the last year!), but I have definitely had a low basal body temp, hovering around 96.5 in the mornings. I should check that one of these days. I've been feeling good enough that I haven't worried much about it. If you are already on thyroid replacement therapy your dr should raise the dosage..My TSH last time I had blood work done was 17.51 so he uped the dosage. Guest guest Posted April 5, 2010 Report Share Posted April 5, 2010 I had thyroid problems while on treatment. Not exactly sure which it was but my TSH was low. Mainly this was caused by the fact that my throat was constantly swollen, that is my thyroid glands were inflamed and because of this I was not producing the hormone (TSH?) which triggers the body to produce the enzymes which break down carbohydrates. So I lost a lot of weight. Went from 145 lbs to 119 lbs in one month. Doctor gave me thyroxin (?) or something like that and it helped. But the damage was done already, I was down to 120lbs. on treatment and I was trying to work full time in construction. I just had no energy.
