Sally,

Thanks so much for responding to me. I have had 3 tests so far and each has

come back with a very low virus count - which of course by medical standards

means I have it. I initially did my research on the disease and began changing

my lifestyle; exercise, eating, sleep, etc. However, I have just recovered from

pneumonia and had another serious bout with the flu later in 2006. I remember

quitting smoking and becoming sicker than I had ever been during that process.

I am guessing this might be the same. My real concern, other than my health, is

how does one get health insurance if they show positive for Hep C??? And, if my

viral count is so low now does it mean it has just begun and will progress? I

believe I did contract this from my husband years ago - he died 5 years ago from

liver failure due to his acute alcoholism but I had been divorced from him since

1989 - and how did I get it from him? Sexually? He never got into the drug

scene but was a very heavy drinker

- 2 fifths a day of vodka. Thanks again - I feel grateful at this stage of the

game to be where I am. Reading about so many others dealing with the

devastation of this disease propels me to learn more so I can better help

others.

cathy Help, I am new and totally confused -

hi , I tried to post this via web post and never showed up. I would

have another test. My friend tested positive twice and negative for the

past ten years.. There is such thing as false positive. You could have

gotten it by someone who had it.... or, needle stick, or shot, or medical

procedure... .. you are so UNsick I would not worry. You need to be

retested I would say twice to confirm... then you need to know your

genotype and if you are positive and so well..... you could probably kick

it in the butt easily...... with TX or well, I hate the stuff, but if you

so well, I would think that either you do not have it and the test was a

false pos or you do have it so lightly that if genotype is good, most

would recomment interferon.. . mainly, get tested again. I would twice

somewhere else....... let us know and welcome, sally

, as far as men not wanting to date because you have Hep C,

well, me too. I explain it to them; I show them information on the

Internet.

I had a friend whose cat stratched me. Well, she panicked!!! because

she thought she was going to get Hep C.

My girlfriend of 10 years is now nervous that she caught Hep C from

me because lately she has been experiencing " chronic fatigue " . I

said " How about vomiting " . She said no.

People are ignorant about the whole thing. It's a shame.

Thanks for writing in.

Love,

Debbie Z.

Hi ...you mentioned that you had no idea where you could have

contracted the hep. Were your children born in the hospital? Were they

vaginal deliveries, or C section.

Often times even after normal deliveries, there is what they consider

excessive blood loss, and they may not supplement with blood, but they

will give you " clotting factor " and it is a blood product also and subject to

contamination. (could also be contaminated equipment)

I would not believe that you got it from your husband. I was married for 17

years, and we did actually share the same razor and toothbrush frequently

when we camped and hunted etc..and never had protected sex, and he is

fine.

Having a low viral count, just means it was low when they tested. Viral load

fluctuates all the time. Your body will clear some of it on its own.

It doesn't always mean that it is a " new " infection. There are those who

clear very well, and thus live with the virus well, and some never even know

they have it until a test for something else leads them there. I was like

that too.

I went to a dermatologist for a hair problem, and she suggested a liver

function test.

I would never have known otherwise.

As far as insurance goes...your diagnosis will be attached to your social

security

number, and registered with the Center for Disease Control in your state.

Insurance companies are not supposed to be able to use this information..but

there is strong evidence that they do.

If there is a pre-qualification questionnaire, and they find out that you

lied about it,

they do not have to cover any expenses that they feel would be linked to it.

Some insurance companies also offer you a special package in which they can

place a " binder " on anything related to your illness. They will cover your

other

health issues and the binder exempts them from the liver disease.

There are also those companies who don't ask, and you are not obligated to

tell.

Same goes for your interpersonal relationships...there is no need to tell your

potential beaus that you have this. You are not in any way a danger to them,

and you have no reason to make it their business unless you feel perhaps that

you

are going to enter into a marriage situation. Any man worth his salt, that

cares for

you will not make it an issue.

On a final note..it is a good idea to educate yourself, but be aware that

most of the

information out there, especially on the net, is pretty biased. Consider the

source

you get it from. For example, sites like WebMD is owned and operated by

primarily

professionals who are marketers for pharm. companies, and there are only a

couple

of doctors, and they all have ties to big business. They put information on

the site

that is designed to scare you, and get you running for your doc. They then

take all

your personal information and sell it to " third parties " and they use that

information

to determine what we worry about the most, and they come up with drugs that

they

can sell us to calm our fears..(restless leg syndrome is a good one!, how

stupid)

information

is coming from, and READ the privacy policy, don't just click yes..
