I would be real nervous about having surgery there. I would really check it out first, or you'll end up on 20/20 paralyzed or worse. I crashed a hang glider in 1982. My first surgery in 83 just removed the disks and broken bone fragments around L1=L2. It was a horrible failure. Then in 87 I had a surgery at Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia PA. He went in cleaned up the scar tissue and fused L1-L2-L3 with hardware, plates and screws. That was very successful for 13 years. Then I had excruciating pain, hit the floor and couldn't get up Jan 5th 2000. In may of 2000 I had a new surgery In Lancaster, PA. The Philadelphia Doctor no longer practiced or I would have gone back to him in a minute. This Doctor went in removed the old hardware, repaired a rip in the Dura which is the covering of the spinal cord that protects it and keeps the fluid in it. He also removed the disk between another disk. He fused with hardware S1 + L1,L2,L3. That was pretty successful but in all of my imaging he found a huge bone spur in my neck and a bad disk also. So in December 2000 he operated on my Neck to fix those items and get rid of neck and shoulder pain. He fused 2 levels in my neck. That operation was a failure. I woke up in more pain than I went under with. It never got better. In fact it got worse. I've been to multiple Doctors, pain specialist, acupuncture, faith healing sessions, P/T you name it. 8 years later I'm in constant pain, both back, and especially neck and shoulder. And recently I've started getting new sciatica pain in my left leg. I'm getting a new MRI for that. So there you have it in a nutshell. I'm on about 7 different pills and take about 15 pills everyday for pain and depression. The pain still cuts through. I use a lot of Ice packs for relief. They help as does massage. Guest guest
hi Sounds like youve had a real bad time mate, replacing the L1 to L3 I need 1to4 replacing so sounds like the same procedure but they couldnt or wouldnt do it in 1998 im approching 68 years, now. im thinking of going back to the UK to seek advice, I should be able to get it done on the NHS but it all takes time with them, so I was thinking of getting x,rays here and taking back with me, which is the best immigery the cat scan or the MRI > > >-hi Dave what surgery did you have on your back? ive been in a lot of > >pain for years now, 10 years ago the doctor, a local GP, who told me > >that the lower vertibrea were too far corroded and it was > >inopperable, but recently I saw another orthepedic surgeon in Thailand- > >who asked me why I had'nt had surgery,I can only presume that its due > >to medical addvances, but sounds a bit risky getting it done here - > > I had read your original post. I'm not sure which is best. I've had both. Something tells me the MRI, but don't hold me too it. My Doctor just ordered a new set of images for me, because of new breakout pain on my left side. All my previous pain has been on my right side. I think he ordered an MRI. I know they have problems when you already have plates and screws because the metal throws off spurious emissions that make it hard to see the detail. Then I think they do a catscan with contrast dye. Dave

Guest guest
Hello , I was looking for minimally invasive surgeries and thought maybe they have made some breakthroughs in Europe. But no, it looks like spine surgeries are similar to those done in the U.S.. I did notice there were several private hospitals in England that do spine surgeries. I guess if you don't want to wait for the public health system, for a price, you can go private. Is the care any different do you think? Guest guest
hi well I would'nt like to think how much it would costin the UK but I think it would be very expensive its £8000 to get it done in Thailand but I dont hink I would trust them although the orthurpedic surgeon seemed pretty sure of what he was talking about, but I would'nt get any composation if it went wrong. A friend has just had an opp on his neck to replace verebrea and spurs, also hes going back in April to get his lower back done so he must be confident > > Hello , > > I was looking for minimally invasive surgeries and thought maybe they have made some breakthroughs in Europe.
