> QUESTION OF THE MONTH:

> Is fluoride a poison and just how toxic is it?

>

> ANSWER:

> This is a fully loaded question that requires pages of historical review

> as well as the study of clinical toxicology related to this very

> interesting product. Its history is heavily clouded since the initial

> investigations of its potential " value " in the mid 1940's. With brevity,

> I shall attempt to give a nutshell answer in order to stimulate the

> viewer's interest and personal further investigation.

>

> Yes, it is an acute toxin with a rating higher than that of lead. It is

> also a toxic waste product (which means it likely contains other heavy

> metals) of aluminum and other industries. In fact, it was the aluminum

> industry that sponsored much of the so-called research and outcome

> findings that eventually opened doors to the fluoridation of water. This

> also relieved the burden of the industry's needs to dispose of a costly

> toxic waste byproduct. " Fluoride is the most bone seeking element known

to

> mankind. " (1)

>

> Fluoride is an equivocal carcinogen as stated by the National Cancer

> Institute in 1990. A New Jersey Department of Health study in 1992

> confirmed a 6.9 fold increase in bone cancer in young males. Fluoride

> will be eliminated at best with a healthy body and kidneys by about 50%

> (key word is healthy). The rest remains to accumulate and cause toxicosis

> as it is stored in calcified tissues, like bones and teeth. After about

> 40 years, even the formerly healthy body will develop at the very least

> crippling skeletal fluorosis as stated by the National Academy of Sciences

> in 1977.

>

> A major area of concern for Gerson Therapy patients is Fluoride's toxic

> affect on the thyroid gland. On page 116 of Dr. Gerson's book, A Cancer

> Therapy, he discusses fluorine and arsenic, " which have their maximum

> Accumulation in the thyroid on account of their biological

elecroposititvity. "

> 'Maximum' refers to organs and cells, not hair, bones or nails. " The

bones

> have a thousand times more calcium than the thyroid, but among 34 other

> kinds of protoplasmic, structures, calcium is found at its maximum in

> the thyroid and activated or ionized there. "

>

> In January, 1997, the employees union of the EPA (representing 1500

> scientists, engineers, lawyers and other professionals)

> reviewed " a body of evidence over the last 11 years, including animal and

> human epidemiology studies, indicates a causal link between

> fluoride/fluoridation and cancer, genetic damage, neurological impairment,

and

> bone pathology. And historically, fluoride was once used as an

anti-thyroid

> medicine to slow down an overactive thyroid. " (2) Imagine what its

effects

> are on an immune compromised body and/or failing thyroid!

>

> In a recent workshop I attended, the lecturers also referred to a

noticeable

> increase in hypothyroidism associated with breast cancer. The information

> is abundant. Fluoride is a poison and it is obviously very toxic. Still

> ignorance prevails with doctors and dentists who have been seriously

mislead.

> I refer you to the sites and their respective links listed for extensive

> information to learn from and share with your health care providers.

> THE GERSON INSTITUTE HAS A NEW HOME!!!!!!

>

> The Gerson Institute has found a new home in an elegant, historic

n house

> located in downtown San Diego. To those of you who donated to our

Relocation Fund,

> we would like to express our deepest gratitude and appreciation for

helping us with the

> costs of moving. As of July 23rd, the Gerson Institute will be located

conveniently off

> the highway, five minutes from the San Diego Airport, and in walking

distance to hotels

> and restaurants.

>

> The new location is truly a space perfect for the vision and future of the

Gerson Institute:

> a large parlor room with a fireplace for lectures and workshops; an area

for private patient

> counseling; a large, sunny kitchen for juicing demonstrations; built-in

pine shelving for a

> Gerson Library; and a warm, welcoming energy for visitors and staff alike.

>

> Both the Board of Directors and the staff are excited about the future of

the Gerson Institute

> in our historic n. The $12,000 dollars we have raised so far will

cover all costs

> associated with moving and the deposit. Yet we are still short of our

$30,000 goal needed to

> cover all costs, including furnishings and accessories that will

complement our unique space.

> Because most of the furniture in our current space belongs to the

building, San Diego Gas

> and Electric has generously donated some desks and file cabinets. However

we still need

> other furnishings related to workshops, meetings and counseling such as

tables, chairs, sofas

> and shelves.

>

> If you would like to help the Gerson Institute become a major force in

contemporary

> healthcare please consider a tax-deductible donation of any size to our

Relocation Fund.

> With your help we can develop even more resources for patient support,

education,

> workshops and more.

>

> Although the date of our move is set, we still need your help to continue

our vision. We

> believe our goals are vital to the welfare of every Gerson patient, the

future of Gerson

> Institute and the well being of people worldwide.

>

> Thank you for your consideration and please make sure to designate your

donation for the

> Relocation Fund so that we can use it appropriately.

>

> Our NEW address and phone numbers:

>

> The Gerson Institute

> 1572 Second Avenue

> Mudzu Apple to Help You Through the Summer Apple Drought

>

> A Gerson Therapy patient has shared another variety of apple that may be

helpful for getting

> you through the " summer granny smith drought " time. It is called a " Mudzu

apple " that is

> apparently tart and very close in nature to the granny smith. Ask your

local supplier about

> obtaining this variety, but make sure to check to see if it organic or

not. I would still prefer

> organic over non-organic. But if you must compromise because neither are

available, then

> obtain a good surfactant cleaner at your health food store. Clean them

very well and no

> wax please! Then keep close tabs on supplies and return to organic granny

smiths as

> soon as possible. McIntosh, Pippin and Winesap apples are also good

substitutions.

>

> REMEMBER TO MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR NEXT MAY SO YOU CAN HAVE

> YOUR SUPPLIER STOCK UP ON AND STORE CASES OF GRANNY SMITH FOR YOU

> IN ADVANCE OF THE SUMMER MONTHS.
