Guest guest
If your liver enzymes are up, that will cause the pain. Your liver has no nerve endings, but the membrane surrounding it does, so when your liver swells, it pushes against that membrane and causes the pain. Fatty foods are the worst for us!

LeighAnn

p.s.
I got your email and will check that out right now! Thanks!
Guest guest
I have pain in my right side that gets worse at different times. Can certain things make your liver work harder and hurt more i.e. certain foods, or " Overdoing " it? Thanks, Gracey
Guest guest
Could be related to your gallbladder if you notice it more after you have eaten. The liver makes bile, which helps to break down fats in your diet, and the bile is stored in your gallbladder, which is attached to the underside of your liver...so it could seem as if you are having " liver pains " . I sometimes am more uncomfortable in that area when I get dehydrated. I find it very tough to get enough water in...I'm just never thirsty. I believe thats pretty common with most of us...but it takes three to four pounds of water to store a days worth of gycogen..so I try! Guest guest
Hello Gracey, I also have this pain in my right side. I have had every test possible to find out where it is coming from. The doctors are now calling it a mystery pain. I have found that stress is one of the main factors of this pain. I have also found that fried foods can cause it to act up. When I get this pain I have found yougert to help. And a low fat diet helps. My doctor also told me that other patients of his with hep have reported this problem. I hope this helps. Rest when you get it helps also. Good luck Beth > > I have pain in my right side that gets worse at different times. Guest guest
Gracey, Most clinicians will agree that the liver in and of itself does not have nerve endings, thus the pain sensation is likely caused by the liver inflammation which affects the surrounding abdominal wall. Exercise with stretching will often reduce the pain felt on the right side of the lower rib cage. There is also a direct relationship between the inflammation stage level found through a biopsy and the tendency for side pain. I tested at Stage 1 for fibrosis and Stage 2 for inflammation and feel side pain quite often. Take care....and bring on the protease inhibitors! Guest guest
I have that pain and my hepatologist told me when the liver gets inflamed and irritated, the capsule surrounding it gets distended and pain can be felt. He said to take small amounts of an anti- inflammatory such as advil, not too much though. I tried it and the pain is intermittent and mild and I even have my appetite back (for now).
