Wenoka:

You got it! Today was the first day of my 34th week. The exact day in my

pregnancy that I gave birth to , so we're ahead of the game!! The only

thing I know about week 34 is now no matter what, if I go into labor they

will " let " me deliver. I don't know if I agree with that because I know not

all 34 week-ers have fully developed lungs and temperature regulation. I

don't want to go down that road again if only for the feeding problems!

But it's great to be this far. I joked with the OB today that wouldn't it be

funny if I went 42 weeks and he said, " Oh, I don't think you have to worry

about that " . He's right -- when I do too much I have contractions that

resemble labor. I think if I hit 40 weeks and go for a long walk I'll be in

labor by nightfall! But it would be pretty funny if after all this the baby

made us wait! You won't hear me complaining about having been pregnant TOO

long, that's for sure, I'm willing to wait!

's strep culture came back neg but I'm going ahead and giving the last

day of Omnicef anyway, it's only one day. Today she said she has a " new

cold " , she was a little sniffly when she said that. I figure she'll " sample "

ALL the germs in this house and have a little bit of this and that before she

settles in.

We've been having bedtime battles ever since we moved here, she stays up

playing for at least an hour after bedtime, sometimes more. Got a new sleep

issues book and tried a new technique last night ( " sleep rules " which, once

followed, earn a great treat upon waking), and she stayed up 2-1/2 hours past

her bedtime! 11pm!!! Sigh. I don't have the energy for this.

,

I'm glad you have made it to 34 weeks. When I went into labor right at 35

weeks with Grace they told me they wouldn't stop it , but then they did

anyway. They decided she wasn't cooked yet and she was only about 4.5 lbs

so they stopped it. Then after all that preterm labor all the times that

it happened, she was being stubborn and wouldn't come!! I did deliver at 38

wks 2 days though, but I sure thought it would have been sooner. I was

dilated to 2cm and 100% effaced at 0 station since 28 weeks!!

Caelan came at 34.5 weeks.....my water broke. He was not ready, but since

my water had broken they didn't stop labor.

I'm sure that the baby will be ready and come in the next few weeks! Hang

in there!!

Did you have contractions all during 's pregnancy the way you have

had with this one? I'm thinking that will have helped speed development,

even if only a little.

I had a lot of contractions all through Christi's pregnancy, she was 5

weeks early (weighed 11lb 1oz - I had gestational diabetes). I remember

that they said that she was having a hard time learning to suck (out of the

bottle, since she was in ICU for a couple of days) and breathe at the same

time. They knew that I was going to breast feed. The first time they

brought her to me to try to nurse, they were all saying, " She won't be able

to nurse the first few times, but don't get discouraged. " She latched

right on and nursed 2 or 3 minutes, then has this look on her face like,

" what the heck is this in my mouth? " and just hung on for a few more

minutes. Then I switched sides thinking that she probably wouldn't do it

again so quickly, but she did and actively nursed for several minutes.

(Now if I could only get her to quit! 8-) - Well, actually she finally has,

except since she smashed her toe and it got infected. Had to take her to

the doctor to take the toenail off. Yuck!) Anyway, I think that it was

because of all the contractions I'd been having that she was able to

recover so quickly. I thought later about here I was complaining about the

contractions, and it was the grace of God getting Christi ready for an

early arrival. Her main problem was not really the breathing and sucking,

it was the blood sugar thing. It took 2 or 3 days for it to really

stabilize. She was born on a Tues and we went home on Sat.

Keep us updated!

I cannot believe I made it this far!! Had my 38 wk appt today and I'm dilated

2cm and 50% effaced. Been having a lot of activity in there, if I walk more

than 50 feet I seem to get a Braxton Hicks, plus I've had about two " real "

contractions per day for the last three days.

My husband says he's still not ready and would love me to clench or something

for another two weeks, but the OB said the baby's probably " done " and will

come out at whatever moment it wants to.

I can't believe the last 26 weeks of contractions and worry about a preemie

and here I am full term!! :) Thanks for keeping track and thinking of me!

Hmmm. I'm thinking that if you're already a little dilated, and half-way

effaced that you're going to have a pretty quick labor. You do have

another appointment next week, don't you? With the strep B situation, you

need to be ready to get on to the hospital pretty quick. Don't be afraid

it's false labor.....in your situation, much better to play it safe, even

if it means back to back trips there.

BTW - What is the official due date?

Well, you called it -- we DID have false labor on Saturday. Lost my plug Fri.

then Sat. morning was having Braxton Hicks every FIVE minutes, did not stop

with lying down. Was worried about making it the hour drive! But alas, was

not the day. Was at the hospital for six boring, hungry hours! I'm at 3cm

now, -2 station. Been crampy and having contractions ever since Thurs and now

officially SICK of them. I was willing to go the Frontier Woman route on

Saturday (no epidural) but not any longer. I'm worn out from the pain already

and I'm not even on the playing field yet. That's okay, I'm fine with the

decision.

Had to take for a sinus re-check today, she's been having the urps

every day and still getting periodic low-grade temps, still has a little

bulkiness in her left cheek. They gave her another five days of Omnicef. She

had had two tantrums this morning before we went, so between the sinus stuff

and the turmoil of the baby coming, I'd say she's in a bit of a state! Also

has ANOTHER new little cold, this is like back-to-back-to-back... nothing

major but just a bummer to keep getting new stuff again and again without

much of a break at all. And while pregnant I'm catching everything from her!

Don't know if I relayed the info from the ped that with me being Group B

Strep positive, they want me to have four hours of IV abx before the baby is

born, otherwise they have to test the baby. Thought that might be good info

to pass along here for somebody else. I know if I don't get a good long IV in

before the birth, every person in a white coat is going to be hearing from me

until something is done or checked out!

:)

previously had transient IgG, IgA, t-cell & other defs...and is FINALLY potty

If you dilated another cm specifically during that time frame, it may not

have been false labor. One of the ways you can tell that it is not false

labor is that there is progression. It could be that your body just got

tired and so it stopped.

Has your OB talked about the possibility of inducing to make sure you get

the IV antibiotics for the 4 hours you need? It just seems like you are

progressed so much that it won't take a whole lot to get the job done. You

have no idea how lucky you are......on my 2nd baby I had labor for 24+

hours at about 2 min apart.....these were real, labor type

contractions......then they just stopped. I was 1cm and MAYBE 50% effaced.

The doctor believed that I had been in real labor, so despite the fact

that it was 2 weeks before the due date, they induced for 12 hours the next

day. At the end, I was 1 cm and MAYBE 70% effaced. So they induced the

next day. After about 8 hours, I had made it to 2 cm, just enough for the

doc to manually rupture my water. The contractions were tolerable before

that, after that it just turned ugly. After another 2-3 hours of intense

pain, I was at 4 cm, so I got my epidural. An hour later, I was ready to

go. Anyway, I just don't progress at all until after my water is broken.

I carried all 3 of them high, and had enough water keeping them up that I

could have floated the ark. It was a good thing they went ahead and

induced. He was two weeks early and still weighed about 8 1/2 lbs. (Of

course, then there is Christi, who was 5 weeks early and weight 11 lbs, 1oz)

But enough about my stuff, I would have had time to fly to California and

back.....a couple of times......during all of my labors. I'm concerned

that, with a 1 hour drive, you may end up not having enough time for the 4

hour IV abx. If you think that this is a legitimate concern, you may want

to talk to the doc about an induction, just so they will be sure to have

enough time to make sure that the strep will not to be problematic to the

baby. If you have a ped lined up for the baby, you might want to get an

opinion from him about it as well. I know that pitocin is the pits, but

you still may want to check on the possibility. And, after all, you just

have 1 cm to go before you are dilated enough to get the epidural, so you

may suffer way less in the long run. It sounds like it wouldn't take much

pit to trigger your labor. You may be able to get hooked up to the IV, get

the abx for 3-4 hours before they even start the pit, so you could take a

nap to get a little rest while the abx are running. Once the epidural is

in effect, you'll be able to nap again. (I don't remember if you got one

with , but they are the way to go when you have extended labor. By

the time I got mine I was exhausted, so I took a nap and would wake up

refreshed just in time for the delivery).

It may save a lot of worry about the strep by giving more control over the

situation, plus you wouldn't have to worry about whether you were going to

make it to the hospital in time. Of course, I'm not the medical expert.

By the way.......Congratulations on making it to week 39! What is the

exact due date?

God bless,

Wenoka

Kathi,

Well, I'm not sure yet when I'll start. I asked about it on here, but I

don't think anyone responded...This past challange I started (and will

finish) at my bloated-ist. (In fact, right on schedule, I ovulated today --

yes, I feel when I ovulate -- and I have a week and a half left of C1. So, I

will have my period a few days after C1 ends.)

This time, I'm thinking of waiting a couple of weeks to start and stop at my

skinniest.

Thoughts?

---Why don't you just start the same day as me? I am starting on

April 14th. And I don't think it matters like if your bloated or

not...I mean....you can get bloated by the end of the day and look

totally different in the morning even when you dont have a period.

Okay,,,did that make sense? I don't think it matters. So you are on

week 11 right now cause you are a week ahead of me. That would give

you two weeks off if you wait and start with me on April 14th

wouldn't it? I will only have a week off but that is all I

want....sooo what do you say to that date?

Ooooo you want me to commit to a date...can I DO that???

Like Maggie said, it probably doesn't matter when I do it, and I can record

the differences....And this is Body For LIFE, right? So it shouldn't matter

at all. I would like to be finished by June 30th, as I'll be on a trip and

would love to impress the people I'll be seeing...but I don't have a

calendar here to look at. I think that would work, even if I'm not " through "

by then, I'll just have to visit the hotel workout room.

It would be fun to be on the same week as you, Kathi, so....

Yes! I'll start C2 on April 14th! (I think...)

I do drink plenty of water. And take Advil, 2 in the morning and 2 around 6

pm. Do you recommend Motrin over Advil? It helps a lot. Before I started the tx

I was on a 3 yr. running regiment. At one time in those 3 yrs I was running 32

to 36 miles a week. So I really miss my running, however I have trouble with the

mildest of chors like bring in the groceries from the car. I'm out of breath.

Feel weak all the time,,,,you know the feeling gang. My dr said my red blood

cell count are low, but not low enough to put me on anything else. I had blood

work done this past Tuesday. Sept. 22 is my 24 week / 6 month mark and I'll have

viral load check then and all the other test they do. Viral tested negative

after week 4. My dr. does not want me to start taking any vitamin supplement at

this stage. He feels it will do littler to help. I'll ask again though.

when you don't want to. Just get your ass outside and walk around a little,

you'll feel a little better! OH!!, and take lots of Motrin (not Tylenol) Are

you taking plenty of vitamins? You should be on Centrum Silver and extra C and

E. Hang in there, you'll get through it!
