I am a type 2 with otherwise mild symptoms, and others in my family have facial, voice and related problems. I think type two's have this problem often. > > [Non-text portions of this message have been > removed] > > __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Hi, This is Judy and I have this problem, too. Does your husband take any meds? Just curious, maybe there was a connection there. For me, it seems to be something that happens without warning, one day fine, one day I can't swallow the smallest thing. Then, I know, for ME, it probably becomes phychological, because I freak out when I can't swallow, which makes it worse. Do you know what type your husband has? Here to listen, Peace & Love Judy g. Guest guest
Hi , I just read something about choking on the MDA web site when I was showing the article they did on me to someone. Go to the link: http://www.mdausa.org/news/011212Piersol.html then in the article where the word " Dejerine-Sottas " appears (probably in blue) click on it and it will take you to related sites for those with CMT and DS. On the right hand side there is a list of links. I found a question under one of the LINKS about choking. It was under the title: " Ask the Experts " Responses about CMT and DS " Click on that and scroll down, the question was titled " Choking and CMT " It says that it is rare in CMT patients, but can happen, as evidenced by me & your husband. They go on to say that there may be another problem, but I think, personally it's the CMT. I read a lot of the " Questions and Answers " and some questions had two Dr's reply with slightly DIFFERENT answers. However, it is a good resource. It's just that so little is known about these disorders because they are SYNDROMES, which means every patient is different. I think that's what puzzles them - that even though there is nothing else causing a symptom and a CMT patient claims to have that symptom, because THEY'VE NEVER encountered it in a CMT patient they've seen, they blame it on something else. It's like, shouldn't someone be documenting the wide variety of complaints by CMT and DS patients - Types 'this' and Types 'that,' personally the 'label' they give you doesn't really help, except maybe to fill out an insurance form. We need more research on the cause & effects of these Types, not just what type we have. Whoops sorry for the 'soap box'- LOL It's just that I feel so badly for so many people who are out there suffering and unable to get a clear and definative explanation. I hope this SITE helps. (I personally asked during the interview, that the link be placed for more awareness within the MDA community) If you need to talk, my modem's always OPEN! Peace & love to you & yours Judy g. Guest guest
I wouldn't assume it was a CMT thing. I would have it looked at.
