Guest guest
that really stinks. as a public service it would be good to make all the malpractice problems you can muster to blight his record at least some. docs prognosis' are often way wrong on the pessimistic side. another big problem might be the disease effecting her thinking so she's in a metal/spiritual tailspin not helped at all by the prognosis. is the transplant not available or does she reject the idea & not cooperate? just maybe there is help & hope. might as well explore the idea some? bobL myspace: http://www.myspace.com/bob021147 ebay: http://stores.ebay.com/bobLs-fine-flotsam homepage: http://www.toad.net/~blarson/ > struggling with mom's infection... > > > i'm lost. feeling helpless...my mom was diagnosed almost 3 years > ago and her doctor (who i now officially hate) decided to " wait " to > see if her body would fight the infection itself. that would be > fine and good but he didn't bother to find out how long she had been > infected. well, we found out earlier this year (from her new > doctor) that she has had it for many years and she is now in end > stage liver failure. they have her a 45% chance to live 2 years if > she didn't get the transplant. i won't go in to all the details, > but it doesn't look like she'll have the transplant. i know no one > can help me but i'm filled with questions, like: > > how will she go? will she suffer or not? is the time frame given > an optimistic one or do they ere on the side of caution and give you > a worse prognosis so you focus on the positive? > > i know the obvious answer is that i should talk to my mom but she's > very closed mouthed about it and i live in colorado, her hawaii. > > i don't know what i'm asking or looking for, just needed to vent. > but any help you can offer would be nice. thanks. > > > > > > >
Guest guest
Could you go into a little more detail as to why your mom is not a candidate for a transplant. Hawaii is not the best location to get listed. Is it possible to bring her to the mainland? HepC-connection is very active in Colo. They may have a support group meeting near you. A support group is there for the patient and family and friends. Get in touch with Dr. Darling of the F.A.I.R. foundation. Dr. Darling has had three liver transplants and has written a book, Coma Life, about his illness and recovery. The book is especially good for caregivers to read. Guest guest
Sorry to hear about your mom, I know how lost you must you feel. A few years ago, I helped to take care of my father in law who died of end stage liver disease. It was very unpleasant, and difficult for everyone involved with his care as we felt very helpless, and no one seemed to have answers to our questions. He developed cancer due to hepatitis, so his situation may be a bit different from yours, but I'm happy to share what I have been thru, and learned in the process. I'm also in Colorado...feel free to e mail me. .
Guest guest
I understand about being lost. My mom was diagnosed as well about 3 y ears ago. She even went through all of the interferon treatments for one year, but since that time has been drinking uncontrollably. It has gotten really bad lately. I even wrote her a letter and printed off the effects of drinking on someone with hepatitis C. We didn't talk for several days, but she now seems to be making somewhat of an effort to quit or at least cut down. Not sure how long it will last. It is hard watching someone you love self destruct before your very own eyes.--- In Hepatitis C , tarasaulibio <no_reply@...> wrote: > > i'm lost. feeling helpless...my mom was diagnosed almost 3 years > ago and her doctor (who i now officially hate) decided to " wait " to > see if her body would fight the infection itself. that would be > fine and good but he didn't bother to find out how long she had been > infected. well, we found out earlier this year (from her new > doctor) that she has had it for many years and she is now in end > stage liver failure. they have her a 45% chance to live 2 years if > she didn't get the transplant. i won't go in to all the details, > but it doesn't look like she'll have the transplant. i know no one > can help me but i'm filled with questions, like: > > how will she go? will she suffer or not? is the time frame given > an optimistic one or do they ere on the side of caution and give you > a worse prognosis so you focus on the positive? > > i know the obvious answer is that i should talk to my mom but she's > very closed mouthed about it and i live in colorado, her hawaii. > > i don't know what i'm asking or looking for, just needed to vent. > but any help you can offer would be nice. thanks. >
