Guest guest
Jana... This could be a build up of fat in the omentum, which lies just beneath the stomach. When your liver cannot effectively store excess fat, like cholesterol and triglycerides, the omentum takes over for it. (the omentum connects the stomach to other abdominal organs, and the liver) This omentum fat, also sucks insulin out of the blood, causing your blood sugar to rise. Some omentum fat is necessary..it gives your organs a quick source of energy should they need it...but it generally is fairly low. When there is excess omentum fat, it can literally strangle your other organs, and press on your diaphram and stomach, making it difficult to eat, and breathe. It can also squash your kidneys enough to make them release hormones that will raise your blood pressure. The omentum fat, when accumulated..kind of drapes down into belly a bit causing you look a bit pregnant, and it can feel semi hard, to very hard. True bloating is generally not local..there will be some bloating in the extremities and face as well as the belly..although the accumulation of fluid with ascites can appear to be confined to the abdomen. The only way to determine if it is omentum is with a CAT scan.
