Guest guest
HCV is NOT found in breast milk. She is safe to breast feed her baby. BUT...if her nipples get cracked and dried, and blood is present around them she should stop.

HCV is only found in blood so as long as there is no blood present, breast feeding is safe and the CDC (Centers For Disease Control) backs up this information. They do not issue a warning regarding breast feeding.

HepC can only be passed from blood-to-blood contact. Her blood HAS to be mixed with someone elses' in order to transmit it. As long as her blood does not enter the blood stream of another person, she cannot give it to any one else.

Congratulations on the new baby!!

LeighAnn
http://www.geocities.com/1Leighann

Guest guest
I agree with you, I too would be very cautious if she begins to have bleeding she needs to stop at least until that clears up. Breast feeding is the best way for a new born to begin life. there are so may positives from the closeness that occurs. but it can also be acheived if you bottle feed. just by holding the baby while she feeds.
Good luck and Congratulations

Guest guest
Hi Sue,

My mother has Hep C and has had two children (myself and another child). She breastfeed both of us. Neither of us have hep c. I suppose I would be more worried about the blood she is sharing with the baby right now. Hopefully all is well with both.

Amber

Guest guest
Hoping that everyone has had a nice Christmas.I just wanted to tell you that my daughter had a beautiful baby girl on the 17th weighing 2.5kgs.Both mum and dad have recently been diagnosed with hep c.She was for a planned caesarean but went into labour and had Chloe very quickly and as things have worked out is bottle feeding. Both mum and dad are awaiting referrals tothe hepatologist and I think they will need some help and support during the coming year,so I will keep logging in.I would like to wish you all a Happy and peaceful new year, and special thanks to LeighAnn,Tracey and Amber for your replies to my original question.Sue
