Guest guest
Tell the doctor to run a HCV RNA PCR QUALITATIVE TEST. This is the most sensitive one and if it comes back negative you do not have HCV. False Positives are very rare anymore because of the newer updated testing available.

Just because your viral load shows less than 600 doesn't mean you don't have HCV. The only way you would be able to say you do NOT have it is if the viral load test went to zero..and the QUALITATIVE test came back negative too.

Also have him run a GENOTYPE test. If no gentoype shows up, you most likely do not have it. But have him run both tests at the same time.

LeighAnn

Guest guest
If the test only measures down to 600,how would it show up 0?My test came back as showing less than 600,the scale was 600-850,000.The test also said that the test could only be that the level was less than 600.They could only measure to 600.To me this is a negative reading for HCV. Guest guest
This is NOT a negative reading. It only means that the test used is only able to read 600 or more copies of the virus in that blood sample. You could have 500 copies of virus in that sample and it won't show because the test used only shows 600 or more.

A newer, more powerful test is out there and available, but many insurance companies won't use it.

Ask your doctor about running your PCR on the newest test....the AMPLICORE test. Guest guest
Reliable labs make mistakes.Even the Mayo Clinic makes mistakes sometimes. Nobody and no lab is perfect. If you have never before tested positive for Hepatitis A, and you have not recently been out of the country, there could very well be a mistake in the test you had.

Getting a second opinion and having tests re-done is a wise choice when you are dealing with Hepatitis C. Many " real " doctors who are very good doctors, have no clue about Hepatitis much less Hepatitis C. My own " real " doctor told me not to worry in 1992, and that I must have just been exposed to HCV. 6 years later I found out he was full of crap and I was in advanced liver disease.

Go see a liver specialist and have him run more tests.

LeighAnn

Guest guest
First my son did the quantitative and found & lt;2000 but that could mean he had 1999. So next time, he did an ultraquant and found & lt;600 but that could mean 599. The last time, he did a who knows what that went down to & lt;50, which could mean 49. That's what he'll continue to get since that's as low as that lab goes to. We don't take it as a negative reading for HCV, but it sure does beat those millions! :-)

Guest guest
You bet it does!! Has your son ever done treatment or had a liver biopsy?

Keeping that viral load as low as his is a great sign of his body fighting the virus!!

LeighAnn

Guest guest
, We chose a BTE (Behind the Ear) processor for our daughter. It " looks " like a hearing aid in that it goes behind the ear and has an ear hook to hold it over the ear. The only wire is from the BTE processor to the magnet and it is no longer than 3-4 inches. Since we will receive two processors, we chose two BTE's with one in beige to match her other hearing aid and one in brown to blend with her brown hair. The " cord " connecting the BTE to the magnet will be brown to again blend. Later on, she can get creative with stickers, beads etc. if she wants to. The " long " cords are for the Body Worn Processor (BWP). The decision on which one to use is a personal one. When you select the device that you will use, your audiologist should show you all the models available and let you try them on. Take your time, do your research and think about your lifestyle and how each one fits your lifestyle the best. If in doubt, chose one of each! The bottom line is that they all work and that is the most important thing. Good luck with your decision and know that there isn't a " wrong " choice, just whatever is the best choice for YOU! ~ in Indiana ________________________________ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of nnjl97 Sent: Tuesday, September 06, 2005 4:47 PM Subject: Confused Again Once again I sit here and think I have figured out which CI to get.. Then I get hit with information from a ci wearer to prove that I may not be doing the correct thing.. My question is, do all CI wearers have to have the long beige wire that runs into a processor. The ones that I have looked into do not seem to have that. They only look like a hearing aide that is hooked on the ear which is connected to the magnet in the head. Other than that I tend to think that they may all do the same with the exception of the batteries.. rechargeable or not. I honestly do not want the wire coming from the ear , running down into a processor. Why I do not know. But I very much don't. So with that can any / all CI implant wearers advise me if they all have the wire that loops down into the processor.. Much Thanks
