question about biopsys

they gave me a shot in my side to deaden it then done the biopsy. The first

one i had i was on my side and they did not give me anything for pain, they

dont like to sedate you because they need you to breath and move your lung

(thats what they told me. the 2nd one was done by my liver specialist and i

laid flat on my back. I instanly felt a pain at the top of my shoulder and

yes I was in pain, they gave me a shot of demoral. He said the pain was

from him entering my in my diaphram(??? but after the shot begin to work 15

minutes later I was fine and the next day I felt great.

both doctors who performed my biopsies was done differently.

You will be just fine Mike, we will be praying for you. Let us know how it

turns out.

Joan- Go for the drugs, they wear off in about 4 hours! I wouldn't have a

biopsy without them (I've had two). I hope you get good results, Good

Dear Joan, When I had my biopsy I barely felt it, I had no sedation, but they did numb the area. I was a little sore the day of the procedure (i rested all day), and a little sore the day after. It depends on your body how u handle the pain.

My doctor said that people who are relaxed tend to have a much easier time.

I met my doctor for the first time at 5 pm one evening and he scheduled the biopsy for 7:30 the next morning. Therefore, I felt very lucky to have the quick turnaround and was looking forward to getting a diagnosis and starting treatment. I didn't have any sedative, and I had no pain during the procedure and nothing beyond mild discomfort afterward. I do remember sleeping a great deal for the first few days, but that probably wasn't from the biopsy. If I had it to do over again, I would have been much more conservative about not moving around vigorously and not being miles away from a hospital for a few days after the procedure.

AMA, They dont usually give any meds like that, they just numb the area, the reason is that u need to be aleart

Joan:

Having a biopsy without sedation, I can only reccommend it with

sedation, mine was painfull. Others say there is little to no pain, so

basically it's up to the person having the biopsy. You shouldn't be sick

after your biopsy. If sedation is used, you may have some nausea. You

should be recovered by the time of the super bowl, but don't exert

yourself too much though. Also follow your doctors instructions. As for

the Super Bowl, since I'm a Raven's Fan, DON'T yell and scream too much,

it'll be bad for your liver :-) (You know - too much stress on the

puncture point).

totally knock you out but it really helps. Afterwards,

I had to lay on my right side for 4 hours straight to

prevent bleeding. I felt fine the next day and even

went to work, but I was not allowed to lift for 10

days to make sure it healed and didnt start to bleed.

So your Super bowl Sunday should be as you plan.

Since I'm the expert now on biopsies (having had my first one last

Friday, lol), I can tell you my experience. I laid on my back, no

meds, no ultrasound, nothing. The doc just felt around, then

injected the deadening stuff, then did the biopsy. The only thing I

felt was the shots deadening the area. Not bad at all! As soon as I

rolled to my side, I felt the pain in my shoulder and they gave me a

shot of demerol and pherergan. I went home after laying on my side

for 3-4 hours. No problems! Since it was my first time, the worst

part for me was the anticipation. Good luck to you.

Biopsies; I have had 3. The first one in Lincoln,Ne by the gastro I was referred to. The second and third were by two different Radiologist's at Mayo sdale. Az. I was told they only numb the surface area because you need to be alert to respond. Each time I had a different reaction, the second one the most uncomfortable. I had to lay quietly for a few hours after . The second and third caused me more discomfort mainly in the shoulder area. I was told that it is referred pain from the liver. So my opinion in my case is the patients condition and the Dr performing. I was uncomfortable the first day and mildly the next day. Leona AIH & Hypothyroid

I dont remember what the meds were, but if your dr.

knows this he will probably be able to give you

something that will work just as well.

I tried to have a biopsy without pain meds and just numbing the area..

But unfortunetly, I was so tender they couldn't even do the sonagram to

locate my liver... So the gastrologist decided to hold off for awhile.. Well,

a week later I was admitted into the hospital for kidney problems and they

did the biopsy then.. The doctor gave me a shot to relax me and before I knew

it the biopsy was done.. There was no pain of the area afterwards..

So I agree it's up to the person having the biopsy how they tolerate pain..

I had my biopsy when I was at my very worst in mid August so it hurt just to

move around since my liver was very enlarged, but given that, the biopsy wasn't

too bad. They gave me novicaine in my liver and that had a sort of burning

sensation, then it was not too bad. They did not want to give me a sedative

since they wanted to instruct me to breathe in and out at certain times. After

the procedure they gave me demoral and I had to lay on my right side for 5

hours. I did have to lay low for the next 10 days, no lifting, could not be

more than one hour from the hospital.

nne, Hunt is doing pretty good right now. Actually his enzyme levels are normal for the first time since Sept when he started school. He seems to be feeling really good. His face is very swollen and his body is beginning to show it. He is still on 40mgs of pred and 100 imuran. He sees his DR at duke next week which is the first time since May. They have been keeping up with him but not seeing him. Oh. by the way, Hunt is working at O'Charley's waiting tables so if you go in look him up or just look for the swollen face. He is going to Tampa this weekend to the Gasperilla festival and some of the super bowl actives. He is excited about that. So you can see that he is feeling pretty good.

How can a person have normal results of a biopsy for both neerves and

muscles and have cmt or any other nerve or muscle disease?

a friends mom has just been told she has peripheral neuropathy after she had

a nerve biopsy. her doctor told her that it was the best way to tell if she

has axon or that other type of neuropathy, that the ncv and emg tests can be

read wrong and each person who reads them can read them different so that is

why she had the biopsy done to make certain. here is what I found on nerve
