Guest guest
Welcome Ben, I wear an ankle brace part of the time. Last spring I chipped my ankle bone and wore a walking boot for 6 weeks then the doctor released me from wearing it and three weeks later severly sprained the same ankle. Then they put me in a ankle support brace for 4 weeks, I was released from it and told to wear it when I have weakness in my ankle or tend to be turning it again quite often. I will wear it for 3-4 days sometimes a week until my strength is back and then get along great for a while until I step just " right " and down I go again! One of the joys of CMT. I would suggest you check with your doctor to see what they suggest first. If they prescribe the brace then some of your insurance companies will cover the expense and if not check around before buying one from a medical supply store because their prices can vary tremendously. I was diagnosed with CMT 8 years ago after complaining of cold sensation in my legs. I went through the terrible testing andfleed the room like a scared cat near the end of the tests, I'll never forget that day. I a 53 year old male living in San Diego, CA. My recent issues with CMT are chronic ankle sprains and random falling. This year I went through a lot of physical therapy and I still have pain and problems with the ankle. The Dr. felt that I should try strengthening the leg muscles, and after a couple of weeks with leg excersizes I now have strained the knee. I do use arch supports but don't routinely use ankle or knee supports. I think I will have to start using them more routinely as I seem to sprain easily. Does anyone have an opinion as to whether you can just use ankle and knee supports from the store or whetheryou need to see a orthepeadic surgeon or a orthotics specialist. I glad I found and look forward to reading my messages. Ben Foundation: http://www..org
Guest guest
My daughter is 2 1/2 years old and was just diagnosed with CMt1A. I have it but did not know until I found out my daughter has it. My father has it, his two sisters (my aunts) and my grandfather, his father, brothers and uncles. We have a long history of it in our family. I took my daughter to the doctor because she was falling alot and was concerned it has to do with her flat footedness. Boy, was I wrong. I was devistated when I found out. I am now dealing with it. There is nothing that can be done but just to deal with it and not dwell on it. I am trying to learn as much as I can about this disease. Anything that I can get my hands on I want. Thank you, KaraGet more from the Web.
