Hi all,

When I started my treatment on 12/6, I asked my Dr about Pegysis and was told

it was not available yet. I have since learned otherwise. My question is,

can I change my treatment mid stream? I am genotype 3a, so maybe I do not

need to be concerned about changing as I understand PegIntron seems to work

well with 3a.

I would sure love some input here.

,

Pegasys is showing slightly better response rates than Pegintron, but

the big plus for Pegasys is milder side effects.

Thanks LeighAnn,

One thing about PegIntron is that Shering (sp?) provides wonderful support

with its In Charge program. I have spoken with the nurses a couple of times

and they are helpful. (Of course they could not answer the question re

Pegasys LOL).

Hugs,

Don't you think you should be talking to a doctor about that?!?

Are you a doctor?

Re: Pegysis

Hi ,

I don't know anyone who has actually changed from PegIntron to

Pegasys in the middle of treatment. With your Genotype, I doubt it

will matter either way which drug you use. You have a great genotype

and should do very well on the PegIntron.

Well of course I will talk to a doctor about that, I just wanted to know if

anyone else knew anything about it. The more information I have the better.

I changed at week 5 from the PegIntron-Ribavirin combo to Pegasys-Ribaviriin

combo without missing a beat. So it must be possible. So far the only

benefit as far as sides go is there is no fever like shakes (rigors) the

night of the shot and the fever itself seems to be lower. Other than that I

still have (in order of severity) the fatigue, depression (medicated), low

grade fever and body aches, dry itching skin, and loss of apetite that I had

before on PegIntron-Ribavirin combo. Overall though the sides seem lessened

and quality of life is a bit better on the Pegasys, I highly recommend it.

If for no other reason than the Friday night fever and rigors benefit I

recieved . FYI, I happen to be genotype 3a with compensated cirrhosis.

regards

bc

Was this initiated by you or your Doctor?

Interesting. For me, the sides seem to be worse from the Rebatol, rather

than the Interferon, so I guess changing would probably not do much for me.

I am seeing my Doctor this Friday, so I will talk to him about it.

Thanks for your input!

on my doctors orders. i'm 3a and did 6 mos on the Schering-Rib combo then

relapsed after 6 weeks. so they wanted me to start asap on the Schering

again (5 months off) and the plan was always to switch me to the Roche as

soon as it became avail. so, i did about 6 weeks on the Schering-Rib and am

in week 18 now, so that's 12 weeks on Roche.-Rib.

later,

bc
