Guest guest
Hello ers, My best friend and neighbor has hurt her back and knowing what that is like, I ordered a fruit and shrimp tray at the market for her and the family. So fine, I put it in my cart, bought a few other things and proceeded to check out. As I unloaded my items, even though I thought I had BOTH HANDS on the fruit and shrimp tray, well, you guessed it, didn't make it to the counter, instead I spilled it all over the floor. Now I was majorly embarrassed, and I was also mad at myself, so I yelled " Oh Sh--! " (not exactly the moost polite response so I was apologizing right and left for my hands AND my mouth!) All the people at the market came running and cleaned it up and made up another tray on the spot no charge even. Meanwhile, I am feeling more embarrassed and just want to hide. Fortunately the market staff knows me and they were so kind, for which I am grateful. I am also grateful I don't drop things on a regular basis. I got the fruit to my neighbor and she was grateful for it, mission accomplished. So now I am just forgiving myself and trying to get on with my Monday. Guess that's the best way to get over public embarrassment. ~ Gretchen
Guest guest
Gretchen, I had an experience recently that should have been mortifying, but it wasn't in the least! I am one of those heinous criminals who still smoke cigarettes! And yep, I got the dropsies too! Well, a few weeks ago while was driving down Main St. in the car, in this august metropolis, I dropped the damn cigarette and it rolled under somewhere. Yep, the trusted Ford started burning like a banshie so of course I got out. Sheesh, what a scene. Police came, then fire Dept. but the Ford was cremated beyond saving. It being a pretty close knit community, the Chief of Police (a very dear friend of mine) was only concerned if I was OK. I am the banker in this wonderful town, alot of folk think I'm older than dirt because I've served 3 generations of some families here. (only 52, but started in my business pretty young, 37 years ago). No one even gave the commotion a second thought because it was Mr. D from the bank and most folk here know that " he has a physical problem that effects his hands and his walking. " Well, I asked a volunteer fireman on the scene, who is my neighbor's son-in-law to drive me over to the Ford agency and picked up a replacement car. All this in one hour! So my comment about dropping things is.....so what? These things happen! Who cares? Not me! We who have a problem caused by a neuro- muscular disease have to understand something........S...T happens, and in the overall scheme of things, it just doesn't matter! A dopey car doesn't mean squwat compared to all the many blessings I've been given. Material things especially mean very little to me. I continue to thank my God for my family, my community and my work.............I am only handicapped if I permit it to be so. So there! With all respects, BobD > Hello ers, > > My best friend and neighbor has hurt her back and knowing what that is > like, I ordered a fruit and shrimp tray at the market for her and the > family. Guest guest
Bob, I am not passing judgement here, they are your lungs, however I certainly do not want you driving a car in my town. Dropping a lit cigarette in a moving car that weighs a ton can cause serious problems not only for you but for any one in your path. According to the California Highway Patrol, the dropping of lit cigarettes in moving cars causes hundreds of vehicle accidents in California every year and in 1999 was directly attributed to 27 accident deaths. The law of averages says that if it happens in California then it happens where you live too! Give your fellow motorists a break as well as your lungs, Please don't smoke and drive! regards, BC ----- Original Message ----- From: <rdick1@...> < > Sent: Monday, December 03, 2001 4:40 PM Subject: [] Re: embarrassment at the market > > > Gretchen, I had an experience recently that should have been > mortifying, but it wasn't in the least! Guest guest
Bill, I certainly can't argue with your good logical comments. You are absolutely right, of course, about driving and smoking at the same time! Fortunately, I was driving at about 20 mph, and as soon as I had a problem, I stopped! The worst part of this whole experience was when I got home because the owner of the luncheonette I stopped in front of called the Mrs. to tell her what was going on. My wife jumped in her car to come pick me up, and I had already left to get another car! She got quite nervous because nobody knew where I was. MANNNNNNNNNN, did I catch hell when I got home! THE LAW HAS BEEN LAID DOWN TO ME..............smoking in the new car is FORBIDDEN! Hearing this evening that our Governor is considering adding another $.39 tax on each pack (making the state tax in NY a total of $1.50) maybe I'll just give the damn things up! Thanks for your view, With respects, BobD --- In @y..., " Bill , Digitec Security " <BILL@D...> wrote: > Bob, > I am not passing judgement here, they are your lungs, however I certainly do > not want you driving a car in my town. > Dropping a lit cigarette in a moving car that weighs a ton can cause serious > problems not only for you but for any one in your path. Guest guest
Good luck, quitting is hard. I gave it up cold turkey 13 years ago, the day after my 30th birthday.
