Hi ,

Well you are certainly braver than I am! My family all wants to go on the

New York New York roller coaster on the Strip, and my husband asked me if I

would want to go on it with him....all I could think of was, " My poor head! "

I still haven't gotten the courage. Maybe I will one of these days. It

would be interesting to see if I can get through it feeling OK!

I say do it, you might as well, whatever happens it won't be as bad

as you think, I was quite surprised by how I felt, exactly the same

as I always do, cept after spending 12 hours there, I was a little

whoozy by the end of the evening but then so was my healthy husband,

in fact I rode more rides than him, I am so tired of not living life,

that I will just do anything these days, it is worth it cause life is

too darned short.

Just wanted to let you know that I e-mailed Medtronic re: amusement parks since I had some of the same questions -- their representative wrote back and said there is not much concern with magnetic fields but that the concern would more be with lead displacement on roller coasters that impose an extreme gravitational pull. They said some roller coasters can impose anywhere from 3.5-5g gravitational force on a person. Sounds to me like as long as you're not riding the corkscrew, going to the park itself shouldn't pose a problem. (They of course also qualified that it's always good to discuss those questions with your individual physician.) I still hope to ride the tamer Disney rides with my 5 yr. old. :)

Once again, all those who go to Disney Parks can get an assistance pass at the visitors' desk that will allow them not to have to wait on the lines. The pass is good for up to 6 in one's party. AICD's qualify as does my wife's fibromyalgia. makes the time there much more pleasant and a lot less physically and emotionally stressful. Can't speak for other amusement parks however.

Ruth,

Im five years with my ICD, several firings, knock on wood, none in the

past two years. Got a new unit last year.

Started riding the " coasters " again last year on one called the " brain

scrambler " figured it was a good place to start since I have some

pretty heavy Anoxic Brain damage too.

Went twice, no firings, but brain was scrambled:)

Have been on the " Rocken Roller coaster " at MGM Disney many times as

well as am a regular at space mountain.

Needless to say ..... I love the new heart meds :)

What weard (and cool I guess) is that due to the anoxia I have a very

poor memory so each ride is just like the first one. Then about the

first dip some old brain cells trigger, I get a brief memory of what I

am in for and scream S T U P I D !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Steve :)

Survivor since 1996, On second ICD. Down 45 min on CPR with 12 day

coma and anoxic brain injury recovery. Still getting better and always

pushing the limit :) Ya cant stop me till you

Anoxic Brain damage is caused when you heart is stopped so long there

is not enough oxygen that gets to the braon and it begins to die. It

dies from the outside in and front back due to the way the blood flows

(called watershead)

So you loose newer memory first, which is why many cannot remember the

actualt event, then later and later (I lost 25 years ) and then

whatever criticle areas get effected (vision, cognative and frontal

lobe actions, shprt term memory, muscle control, etc)

It is almost identicle to drownding.

The electricle system in my heart was so blown ouyt, my heart would

not restart, so the kept me alive with CPR and final got it beating at

the hospital. By then I was in a Coma and stayed there for a couple

weeks.

Woke up thinking I was aboout 20, couldnt talk or walk or even pick

anything up. New definition of confusion :)

Took a couple years to get functional again. walked in a few wee

Hi ,

I guess everyone is different.

I have had two bad roller coaster experiences 6 years back and 4 years

back.

I now avoid all rides with extreme " G " forces.

It feels like I am in VT while flying up, down and all around.

And I finish the ride dizzy and scared.

Just my experience,

Everyone is different - that is how your heart and blood pressure reacts. It is NOT the ICD. That is why my cardio said for me to go on rides I am comfortable with and know, because he is concerned about the blood pressure....
