Guest guest
Hello Everyone! I haven't posted for a long time, I've been quite busy. I wanted to share some information with you. My mother and I recently started Rolfing Therapy and it's gone quite well. I'll give you all some background on what exactly it is, since very few people have heard of it. By definition, Rolfing is the manipulation or deep tissue massage of the body's connective tissue and muscles (fascia), in order to realign and balance the body's structure. This leads to improved posture, function, and general physical and emotional health. At first, it is rather uncomfortable an even a bit painful. However, that's to be expected. For CMTers, it's getting all of that tension in our joints and muscles released. Even if it's uncomfortable during the session when he/she is working on you, keep in mind that you should always feel a great deal better immediately afterward. Emotionally, it's so incredible after they release a particularly tense muscle. I always start babbling incoherently or I laugh, my mother has broken down crying before and not even known why. It's amazing the way it plays with your senses. The sessions took getting use to. My mother attended them first, and then asked if I would be interested. She was honest with me, informing me that he'll have me just in my bra and underwear when he's working on me. The rolfer we go to is so professional, that it doesn't bother me at all. The whole experience hasn't made me nervous or uncomfortable, it's more like having a check up with your doctor. (Keep in mind I am a fourteen year old American, and since America is such a 'no touch' society, that was the only reason I felt any initial hesitation.) The appointments always begin by the rolfer placing their hands on the back of your neck (since there is a bundle of nerves there). They'll have you breathe deeply as they starting applying pressure is certain areas. After you've relaxed, they'll move to other areas on your body. If any of you are interested in learning more about this, just reply back to this post. I can't begin to tell you how much it's help me out. Now, my movements tend to flow. My sleep has been uninterrupted and comfortable. Much less tension, much less pain. Marta
