Guest guest
I just want to say that I have more friends at this part of my life than I have ever had. Sure my friends are all spread out. Friends from high school, college, grad school, etc. have all relocated many times as I have although we get together for special times. I have also made lots of friends over the years though my career and volunteer activities. Again these friends are spread out and accumulate due to moves and expanding interests. I also have friends who have moved to other countries and I visit as time allows. And then there are more of my friends of Bill W. who I have not even had the good fortune to meet yet. I am outgoing and make friends easily; I do not bring up the fact I have CMT. Sometimes people will ask, others won't, to others it does not matter, they like me for me. As for friends helping me, sure, I need some tall friends to reach things I can't get or to pick the summer's peaches, I need some physically strong friends to help me with my yard or my house and yes, I need some emotionally strong friends when I feel weak. In my experience, I have learned not continually expand my circle of friends and not depend on one or two to 'do everything'... that can be a turn off. I am lucky because my neighborhood friends often ask if there is anything they can do or pick up for me in town...I live in a small area so we are pretty well acquainted. But, my REAL best friend? (apart from my animals?) - myself. And I think that is where being a 'real' friend begins. ~ Gretchen
