Guest guest
Hi Jane, Try some New Balance shoes. In a wide or double wide. I prefer the cross trainers or pro walkers brand. I am confused if you got AFOs that go up your leg or orthotics that are inside the bottoms of your shoes. The latter is what I have. It DID take some getting used to. But my distance walking greatly improved. Yes, the way my orthotics are made they keep my arches and ankles supported and no rollover. The shoes help too in their design. Yes, my legs ached a little for maybe 2 weeks, but I mean I was walking EVERYWHERE to test them! My orthotics are made of a rubbery polyutherene stuff and they are sort of spongy and comfortable, they also absorb the shock my feet get when they hit the ground. I also have special heel support, as I am a toe walker. I went back each week at the orthotist suggestion for a 'check in' for a month, then at 3, 6 9 and now I just go 1X a year. I truly noticed a big difference in stability. If you're having problems, take them back and explain the problem, my orthotist is very good about that. Of course I am ONLY speaking here about ones that go inside your shoes, NOT up your legs, of which I have no personal experience. ~ Gretchen
