Guest guest
Hi group, My name is Fabian, I live in Mississippi. My Dr. Told me about three or four years ago that I have hep. C I had two viral load tests in a six month time frame and they both came back with no sign of the virus. He said I just have the antibodies to it and I would not have to worry about it anymore. I have been told That it can come back. That it is just in remission right now. So far my ALT and all have been ok. Can anyone help me with this. Do I have to worry anymore ? Can this still come back ? Best Wishes, Fabian
Guest guest
Fabian; I had HepC and did the pill and injection treatment. I called my Dr. and asked him about your question and his reply was, " Tell him to have his ALT levels checked every year and if you are a drinker then QUIT as he says drinking does major damage to the liver as is " . My treatment was a success for me in 2000. I am lucky because of the liver scar tissue from drinking and HepC has improved. My liver biopsey before treatment was looking pretty gloomy. But since I quit drinking and did the treatment my biopsey last November showed a major improvment and there is very little scar tissue now. So Fabian I say to you I hope you will never have to deal with it. Its not much fun doing the treatments. I know!!! BEEN THERE, DONE THAT! Eat lots of fruits, veggys, and fiber. If you ever wanna talk about it, email me. I'll be glad to give you more info. Here is the Hepatitis Foundation International web link http://www.hepfi.org/pages/liv_abc.html This is a very informative link. I would recomend you bookmark it for future use. Best wishes to you, Jerry
Guest guest
Hi Fabian, I agree with the two earlier posts, you have very little to worry about. Approximately 15% of people exposed to the hepatitis C virus will not develop an active infection. Do you know when you may have been infected? Blood transfusion before 1992? Tattoos, body piercings? An accidential needle stick? Recreational drug users are probably infected during their first year of use. Don't worry about telling how or when, just use it for your own knowledge. If you were infected 20 or 25 years ago, show no viral load and no liver damage your doctor is correct - a viral load each year and keep the alcohol use at a minimum and you may never have to do the combo shuffle. Guest guest
Hi Porter! Also hi to all the other newbies in the group, and to my friends I have known here. Life has been keeping me away from the puter lately! Porter, there is always hope. I'm 1B, not too great a success rate on treatment, but lucky for me, I have no damage yet. It could turn on a dime at any time, and if it does, I will do the treatment like so many courageous people on this list have done. From what others on this list have told me is that treatment stops further liver damage if you do have cirrhosis. They can tell you better than me. It seems that the treatment stops the cirrhosis from progressing. My grandfather was an alcoholic from the time he was 15 until he was 75, and hospitalized for cirrhosis. He was in a coma and wasn't expected to live through the night. Somehow, he heard the doctor talk to a nurse, and the doctor told her to keep an eye on him because he wouldn't live through the night. He told me that he had an " Oh, shit! " moment, and decided that he wasn't ready to check out yet. The next morning, he was awake and alert and even ate breakfast. The doctor told him that even if liver function got down to nearly 20%, it could still regenerate itself. I haven't heard much talk about that on this list or others, your post reminds me that I will have to check that out. Anyway, my grandfather quit drinking and lived until he was 95. They didn't have tests for Hep C back then, so who knows if he didn't have it, too. Maybe if you post more about what's going on with you, the people on this list could help you more. They are a great group, and gave me my life back after I thought I heard my death sentence. Marilyn Re: Hi new to the group. " Need advice " Hi, did your liver biopsy show cirrhosis? What kind of treatment did you have? Thank you for any hope. Porter
