Guest guest
If they test OK, they can be turned back on, Gayle. In my case, two of my electrodes were intermittently shorting out, so the audi turned them off. The Cochlear audi came and ran some tests and said they were testing OK, but if the fault was going to be an intermittent one, I preferred they be left turned off, because I didnt want problems once I had left the CI centre and got home. It hasnt caused me any noticeable problems, except when it first happened and I noticed I lost some clarity. This was fixed up at my next mapping. When I went a couple of weeks ago, the two electrodes were testing OK, but I told my audi to leave them turned off, now I have got used to being without them. Apparently one only needs between, I think its 8 and 12 electrodes for good understanding of speech. I can use the phone without using the telecoil and music sounds good to me, so it isnt causing me any problems. Guest guest
I think its something to do with when they can't get any more power through the electrodes, . This happened to me too, I needed more volume and a couple of the electrodes were going out of compliance, so I had to change map speeds. I switched from I think it was 2400 Hi Ace, to 1800 Ace. Guest guest
Ted, If you needed more volume, wouldn't you need higher speed?

Guest guest
I was implanted January 2006. Within about four or five months, I had my top two electrodes turn off. It help eliminate the hollow, echo-y sound I was getting from listening to voices. It gave me immediate satisfaction and I haven't had them turned back on. Guest guest
, it was my understanding that it was the faster speed that was max-ing me out on certain electrodes. Switching to the lower speed, bought them all back into compliance and gave me more room to work with, for future development. Guest guest
With the 3G, only 20 of the 22 available electrodes could be mapped with the Nucleus 24 series. So by default I had the 2 highest eliminated. Because the sound of those plastic grocery bags sounded so sharp it was like hearing fireworks. Now with the Freedom for N24, I can have all 22 electrodes mapped, but I don't. Haven't noticed any diminished hearing from it either. judy40@... judygmartin Sun Aug 26, 2007 2:26 pm (PST) I was implanted January 2006. Guest guest
Apparently one only needs > between, I think its 8 and 12 electrodes for good understanding of > speech. Hi Everyone, I'm new to this group, my eleven year old son Jordan has a ci and I was only planning on kind of observing, but you were all talking about Electrodes. I live in Italy and one of the guys who goes to our speech therapist just told me that he had to have 6 electrodes turned off due to his eye twitching. Has this happened to anyone else? Does it sound like a normal course of action based on the eye twitching? I didn't know about the 8 to 12 electrodes for good understanding of speech... Thank you in advance and I'm happy to be a part of another ci support group!! Jodi > > > >
Guest guest
I don't think she turned off any of mine for eye twitching but she turned one way way down.. said I wouldn't need it anyway. Pam (free of eye twitching now) Re: Electrodes Apparently one only needs > between, I think its 8 and 12 electrodes for good understanding of > speech. Guest guest
Dora, Thank you so much for this information that I will relay to Michele! And congratulations on your book, is it available on Amazon.com?!! Jodi Thank you as well to all who replied... > > Hi Jodi > Yes,I have several electrodes turned off.At the activation of my 1ST CI 8 electrodes caused my eye and face to twitch an were turned off.A couple days later 2 more were turned off but i still could hear very, very well. Then about 4 yrs later 2 more caused facial stimulation and were turned off. Then speech became distorted.I found an audiologist who had experience with my problem and he used a variable mode Map as well as double Mapping ..I am now hearing very well with my 1st implant. > I have explained this ,as well as other experiences with deafness and the CI,in my published book,I Danced-A cochlear implant odyssey.I am offering compimentary books to anyone who wishes to receive a copy. The only expense is 3.00 for shipping and handling. If anyone is interested please Email me. > Dora Weber > Nucleus Volunteer Advocate > dora_weber@... > > Bilateral > N22-96 > N24C-01 > Cochlear Otosclerosis > > >
Guest guest
Hi Tony, My electrodes are much cheaper and last a lot longer. Please go to my website and see for yourself. http://www.drdiane.com/NeurobandImages.htm To order go to http://www.drdiane.com/orderform.php?item=1 & type=1 Hope this helps. Guest guest
I would like to get some self adhesive electrodes to use with a 6v battery. Is there any preference for size, type, etc? I have googled tens eledtrodes and they come in many different sizes and metals, from carbon to silver and platinum. Is there an easy way to make the connection? Thanks, Ted
