Guest guest
Welcome ! Glad you joined US! Yes, why not go to a neurologist to start with. Describe your pain and walking difficulties. There ARE medications and things you can do for pain as well. For walking, some people here are helped tremendously with AFOS, I am helped by in-shoe orthotics and light medication. I also meditate, get regular sleep and keep my stress level low. No one has ever pitied me, but maybe because I do not allow that. I make plans and go forward. I continue to live a regular 'normal' life. There are no big deals. Just alot of fun, good times and interesting projects in my life. Oh yes, and I am 49. A doctor could help you at least with writing a prescription if you need orthotics or AFOs and that will allow for insurance to pay part of it. Or try one of the MDA clinics http://www.mdausa.org I understand how tiring this is for you to deal with. I was so tired of it all by the time I was 18, I turned to alcohol for an escape for 9 years. Fortunately I was rescued and taught there were other ways to live with CMT and my life. There are about 535 of us here now. I am certain you will hear from others and get their suggestions. Again, Welcome! ~ Gretchen
