Hello. Not all people with high arch have CMT and not all people with CMT

have pes cavus (high arch). Some CMTers have flat foot. Cavus and flat are

opposite deformities.

A different deformity in your feet does not mean that you have CMT only in

one foot.

There are people with a high arched foot and a flat one: this is probably

due to an asymmetrical stance. The foot which received all the body weight

became flat.

The cavus foot often has an equinus deformity because the

triceps surae muscle has not been stretched by the body weight.

Ciao.

Hi Dr Paolo Vinci,

I am very sorry I should have been clearer. I was just making a funny Ha Ha!.

The posting I was replying to " One medic even told me that I could not have

CMT

because only people with high arches (mine are so flat you can't slide a

blinking

pencil under) have it. " I was pointing out that I have both a pre cavus right

foot and flat left foot. I have had EMGs, NVC s, muscle biopsies, and nerve

biopsies all confirming CMT type 1. Again I am very sorry. I was just trying

to

add a little humor.

Happy Trails
