Guest guest
As a point of interest, I have taken a look at that book, " Power Eating " in the bookstore. Let me just say that it uses a powerful persuasion technique of presenting only the studies and evidence they feel strengthen their opinions. I would look at a variety of popular books, texts, and search the online pubMed database if you want the whole picture. PubMed provides access to millions of research articles at: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/PubMed/ ---------------------- Name ...? <live2ride_666@h...> wrote: > I'm reading a lot on training and nutrition. > My goal is to lose my gut and gain mass. I'm 5'8 " and 240lbs. But now I'm reading a book called " Power Eating " , but they keep referring to a placebo: > > " In a study conducted by Dr. of Penn State, subjects aged 55 and older were given either a daily 800 milligram vitamin E supplement or a placebo. " ---------- Mel Siff: > ***In the old days, a placebo was a " sugar pill " , something which looked the genuine article, but conatined no active ingredients. A placebo effect relates to one's belief in the powers of anything that you are eating or using in training. Contrary to what many people believe, the placebo effect can be extremely powerful and offer results which may rival or exceed those of the 'genuine' article. > > Please sign your full name when submitting letters to this forum, since we all enjoy coming to know one another as one extended family! > > Dr Mel C Siff > Denver, USA > mcsiff@a... Guest guest
Yep, into our files, Dick, nice going. You will outlive your contemporaries at this rate..are any left? bG > > The other night when I knelt down I felt a pain in my right knee. It did not burn or hurt like I had torn something, but it felt like it would hurt if I did not favor it, and it did not feel right when bending or getting in the car, etc. The next day I put wet pads on both sides of it, hooked it up to my 6v lantern battery and held them on with a velcro strap. It was probably on for an hour, changing polarity a couple of times. The next day it was much better, and the following day it felt just like the other knee. I also put the north side of a 1 " x 1/2 " rare earth magnet on the knee, so I don't know which did the magic, or if it was all in my head. But I really don't care. It didn't cost much or require a two hour wait in a doctor's office. The last time I had a knee that wanted to feel its age(82) it took a month, or more, of physical therapy to fix it. This time a couple days of microcurrent. Amen. >
