I received a ring of bites around both ankles from horse flies or March

flies (Family Tabanidae), as well as a few bites on my hands.

The itching was phenomenal, and I tried a variety of treatments. A

couple of weeks previously bicarbonate of soda had helped ease the

discomfort of a smaller attack. This time I was fairly moaning aloud

with the deep, almost painful, itch.

This time nothing worked until I applied the 6 v battery current. I

applied the electrodes clipped onto the battery terminals (my very old

electrodes made out of an old guitar string formed into a circle) with

kitchen towel wrapped around the circle and moistened with colloidal

silver. I moved them around the bites over the course of an hour or

two, and once they had taken effect the itch disappeared and I have not

needed to re-apply.
