No drug has the power to heal or restore the body to health. If you gave the child anti(against) biotics(life) and the child is sick again, obviously the drugs not only did not help the child but just suppressed the symptoms. There are a number of good books at the health food store that explain healthy lifestyles for babies. I allowed antibiotics two months ago, when she got it, and it appears she has gotten it again. But I am not positive antibiotics help a cold like this? But if they do, should I give her probiotics at the same time to counteract the anti? If my son developved bronchitis, I would not give him antibiotics. Instead, I'd do things to boost the immune system. This is what I give when DS gets sick, and he's usually over it in 24-48 hours: 250 mg Vit C per day, 15 mg Zinc per day, Probiotics, Elderberry Syrup (for a cough) and lots of rest. If it's warm enough outside, also open the doors and get some fresh air and a little sun coming in. Hi Jane It seems that I have bronchial infections now as well. Now this is not something totally new to me. Way back when in 1958 I started having Bronchitis, or so they called it at the time, and each year it got worse and worse. Eventually I was finally diagnosed with full blown Asthma due to allergic reactions, 58 of them to be sure, and most confined to the area in Ontario, Canada, that I lived in. I did get some relief once I was posted to Manitoba, the start of the prairies. I could actually go off most of my medications while posted there. The only time I seemed to have any bronchial problems was when I went back to my home on leave. The docs would start me on a course of Asthma and Hay Fever medications two weeks before I went on leave. The really helped but the side effect was extreme drowsiness for that two weeks. Everything came to a head while I was posted to HMCS Preserver, in 1969-1972 and I had a massive chest infection on top of a bad attack of Asthma. We were in Ontario for Christmas and New Years, so the kids could spend some time with their grandparents.. When I got back to Halifax I could hardly breath. At one point, while trying to sneak out the back door of our shore office in the Forces Hosptial in Halifax and the Base Surgeon happened to be working late and he heard my rasps, rattles, wheezing and and coughs. He came to the door of his office as I was walking by and said one word, " upstairs, now. " that meaning upstairs to the hospital treatment areas. It was smack to bed with IV's everywhere in my arms and oxygen running very fast. To make a long story short, I spent the next two weeks in the hospital and was darned near discharged from the Armed Forces on medical grounds. But realizing what brought it on, they told me to stay out of Ontario when on leave. BTW, I was posted to that same area in 1972-73 but was sent with a briefcase full of pills, puffers and some injection medications if things got too bad. That posting spelled the beginning of the end of my Armed Forces carreer so I just had to roll it out or get posted back to the prairies before my release. I opted to take my release and called for my last place of residence to be Calgary, that way the Armed Forces paid for our move to Calgary and what I thought was a cushy job. I left that after putting thousands of miles on my leased company car in the first 6 months I was there. Not to mention a 16 day stay in a comfy, trendy hotel because our furniture and clothes were all lost in transit. They were not really lost, but they went to Vancouver twice before the movers could get to unload our furniture and possessions. 16 days in a 4 star hotel with great room service was as good as it got there for a while. All my business calls were by early car phones, basically a two way radio linking towers. A forerunner of cellular telephone service, but you had to say over, and out when using it. Not to mention the cost. It was in Calgary that I had my very last Asthma Attack. That brought on by driving from Vancouver to Calgary with a huge very fancy Mexican Sombrero on the inside ledge of the rear window. Found out that it was made from horse hair. Our next door neighbour received a great memento of our trip. It was my then wife and kids first time going to the Pacific Ocean. Anyway, it seems that the asthma or possibly something much worse is going on at the moment. There is still a residual pneumonia and I have to use my steriod puffer twice daily. I was also put on two nasal allergy drug and I have been fine for 8 months. I were a mask when I dust of clean liter boxes, as dust was an allergen for me. Guest guest Posted July 28, 2008 Report Share Posted July 28, 2008 Hi Jane, The summer I started getting the classic ReA symptoms (arthritis, urinary, and eye problems), I also got a bronchial infection that spread into my ears and sinuses. Although I didn't realize what was happening at the time, I now feel that the bronchial infection was related to the ReA and the changes my immune system was experiencing. Since then, I have not had any further bronchial infections, but I still have a feeling of fluid in my lungs that sometimes causes me to cough. I've done some investigating to see if others have experienced similar symptoms, but it doesn't appear to be very common. Bronchitis Just wondering whether anyone else is plagued by bronchial infections. Started losing my voice on Thursday and went to the doc today. He did no blood work but thinks it is viral. Seems Like I'm always coughing up some sort of green or brown stuff (nasty / sorry!!!) Every time I go to the docs.. they give me a Zithromax pack and send me home. I really can't say anything yet, but i get the feeling that something is happening and the chest cough that normally progresses to a painful experience seems to have slowed a little. could be wishful thinking but we shall see.
