Guest guest
My mother, who had a microdiscectomy on her neck about a year ago, is still experiencing severe sharp pain traveling down her arms, legs and back -- with a burning sensation. At first, an orthopedic surgeon thought he'd pinpointed the problem: a nerve that appeared to be pinched from a bulging disc resulting from the surgery. But after an epidural injected in that spot, my mom is still feeling the same level of pain. So now the orthopedic surgeon says he can't help her because he doesn't know where the pain is coming from and he is advising against another surgery because it could damage her voice box and she may not be able to turn her neck after it. He has advised instead that she learn to live with the pain and perhaps join a pain management group. On the other hand, a neurosurgeon says he may be able to take away some of the pain by operating on the same area as the original surgery. He said she may not have healed well after the first surgery and he could try to repair the nerve and any spinal tissue. Anybody else getting conflicting recommendations like this? If so, what route did you take? --------------------------------- It's here! Your new message! Get new email alerts with the free Toolbar.
