Guest guest
Hi everyone I wanted to ask everyone and see how they felt about this as its come up before and I'd like to know what the group thinks of it. We recently had a dr (chiropractor) who asked to join the group. He wanted to read about people who had lumbar back pain and neck pain. Now I felt this would be an invansion of our privacy to have someone read about how we all feel on a daily basis. This group IS for people in pain Not for someone to read our posts and get info about our pain. I didn't see how this would help him in his practice and I honestly felt it was wrong of him to ask to even join as the membership clearly states it is for people in pain group. But I wanted to hear from everyone else how you felt about this, if you would want a dr reading your posts since most of them are about our daily pain and dealing with our lives which is personal to me. I've had this happen before and I had the same feeling so I thought maybe I should ask the group how you feel about someone doing ths to you??? would you want someone reading all your posts about your pain and problems??? Please let me know how you feel maybe I am wrong in my feelings. But my first feeling is to protect the group. Thanks for your input. Guest guest
I am more in favor of not allowing them in. I worry about what may come of it down the line. I would not like to see anyone being pressured to try a new thing or buy a new book or take a new pill. I think we all have a hard enough time trying to sort through and figure out what will be best to do for out pain. This seems as though it has the potential to complicate and add additional pressures where it is not needed. If he is needing to learn more about people in pain there are other alternatives for him. I look at it like that unwanted phone call from a solicetor(sp?). If we want services or help with something. Then we have the means to find the info that we need to go about getting that accomplished for ourselves. We don't need them lurking in the background waiting to pounce after seeing what we have to say on various issues. Guess I got alittle carried away. Guest guest
I don't think it's a good idea either. As you said this list is for US, the ones that are in pain. It's for support and understanding from others that understand what we're going through from personal experience. I personally wouldn't like the idea of a doctor being on this list just to see what we say, that's like spying. Especially a chiro since they are very controversial with some people. My vote is not to allow it. > > Hi everyone I wanted to ask everyone and see how they felt about this > as its come up before and I'd like to know what the group thinks of > it. Guest guest
HiSharon, I hope I am not out of line with this reply. I have experienced and have read that many people have had doctors that have not listened or believed in the pain that we suffer from. Also how difficult it is to get an accurate diagnosis. If just one doctor were to understand and, perhaps, empathize with what we go through on a daily basis with our pain, it would may help to broaden some (doctors) minds. Receiving feedback and perhaps education from a doctor could prove to be beneficial not only for us but will give the doctor an understanding an insight of what it is really like for a person with chronic back and neck pain. It may help him in his practice and if he were 'connected' he could also educate other doctors. I don't know, maybe I'm looking at this situation all wrong. And I apologize if I have offended anyone. Guest guest
At first it was numb but after 2 years there is no numbness. It depends on if they cut any nerves - but nerves do grow back, but it takes awhile. > To all of you who have had replacement surgery..... Guest guest
My knee still has quite a large area of numbness and the scar is sensitive but I am only three and a half months out. I think it is normal when surgery cuts through nerves and the feeling doesn't always come back. I have a fairly large area of numbness in my armpit and down the inside of my arm from breast surgery more than two years ago and it remains the same.
