Guest guest
Hi, I do not know a lot about other supplemental insurance for Medicare Recipients just the one I have - when I had simultaneous implants my supplemental paid 100% I was out of pocket absolutely no money. Any charges I had that was not covered my Medicare my supplemental paid them due to the fact what I needed was a medical necessity to be approved as a candidate. I have United Healthcare and I am a Railroad Medicare Recipient - I just turned 59. I do know some about Medicare supplementals the person pays their deductible for the supplement and the supplemental pays anywhere from 80% to 100% after Medicare pays. The insurance office where she is getting her CI should be able to tell her what she will have to pay out of pocket. They would contact the company she has the supplemental policy for approval just like they would contact Medicare. Roxie > > Here in Alaska, I'm talking to a woman who is in her late 70s and is getting a CI next week. She had lost her hearing due to a stroke on once side in the 80s but woke up one day in December 2005 and had lost the hearing in the other ear too (not from a stroke, cause is undetermined). She's asking me about supplemental insurance to go with her Medicare? Any suggestions? I've never qualified for supplemental here because I'm not yet 65. > > Pam (in Anchorage) > > >
Guest guest
Thanks Roxie; The lady doesn't have any supplemental insurance right now and is looking around to find out where she could get some (what companies). She was asking me for recommendations and I don't have a clue. This is a long story and due to her age I don't want to make suggestions that will complicate matters for her. Her surgery is scheduled for the 14th. As it is she's going to Oregon to have surgery and will have an AB implant. She will have to go to Oregon for all her mappings because no one in Alaska works with AB. She was steered into all these decisions by well meaning friends and relatives who live in Oregon and I'm not sure she fully understands the ramifications of decisions that have been made. She let people be very hastey and didn't do the preliminary ground work that in my opinion should have been done. She says she doesn't mind the frequent round trips to Oregon from Alaska but we'll see how it goes. She's pretty sprightly but has some balance issues and uses a walker now. I was able to suggest that she get a recliner at her daughters in Oregon for recuperation and that is being done. Pam
Guest guest
Hi Pam, She needs to look or have someone do it for her in the back of her the most recent Medicare And You handbook and there will be a list of Insurance Companies that supplies supplemental insurance in her state. Also, I have been told that AARP has a very good supplemental plan. > > Thanks Roxie; > > The lady doesn't have any supplemental insurance right now and is looking around to find out where she could get some (what companies). Guest guest
Hi, There are quite a few insurance co that combines Medicare. I started with Blue Cross and Blue Shield. THen, I switched to Humana. THen I switched to care Plus and now I am with Preferred care Partners. You can call and tell them you have Medicare. They will set up an apt with you and in my area, will come to your house to do the paper work. Nice treatment, huh? I recall a website you cna go to to look. It might be the Medicare home page? Not sure. Guest guest
Hi all I have SSDI but won't be eligble for Medicare till the beginning of the next year. I'm having problems trying to find out information regarding Medicare and getting supplemental insurance as I keep getting ahold of nasty customer service people, and can't seem to get a straight answer. Since I'm not over 62, I understand that my type of Medicare is different, also since it's disability related. I live In Las Vegas, Nv., and don't have any friends who are qualified to help me with answers. I've been told that as soon as I'm eligible, they take out the cost of the Medicare out of my check, whether i want it or not. Also that I have to find a supplemental insurance 6 months or less before I qualify, otherwise insurance companies won't cover me because of a pre-existing condition, and the supplemental ins. has to be able to work with Medicare. I've been told that we have to pay 20% after they pay their 80%, and for hospital visits it's like over $900. deductible, plus other sums are due for hospitalization. Is this true? I know we have to find our own drug plan, as well as dental and vision. I don't get the maximum available for disability, but I know I don't qualify for assistance along with the Medicare. Does anyone know of a good supplemental insurance plan to use to cover what Medicare won't cover? I think I've found a plan for a drug program that Walgreen's printed out for me, but I don't know where to look for a medical plan that will supplement Medicare, or a Dental plan. I'm not going to worry about vision at this time, but it seems all my meds. give me dry mouth, and my dentist now says that is giving me problems with periodental disease, since the bacteria doesn't get a chance to be washed out with the saliva, even though I use mouthwash and chew sugarless gum, and try to drink a lot of fluids. I don't want to lose my teeth on top of everything else! I was told also when they start taking out the premium, and you don't want Medicare, they don't refund the money taken out already, you have to wait till you get your card, and then send it back, then they'll stop taking out the premium. I know I'm running on and on here, so I guess to sum things up, who do I turn to to get help, or does anyone know of a good supplemental plan, or where can I find one that co-ordinates with Medicare, and I need a Dental plan. I wish they had an agency that could help me out here and find out if what I've heard so far is true, but instead I have to turn to you all. Thanks for any and all help, I appreciate it.
