Guest guest
hi all. i wanted to give the answers i didn`t give before. my dr told me about a stimulator. but i decided against it since i did not wish to be cut on again. i get by on medication and my cane. i know it`s just time before the pain gets worse so i may have to but i want to put it off as long as possible. i also try and do other small things like building models or small woodwork using a dremel rotary tool. i try to do things so i won`t think about the pain. i was wondering if anyone else in here did things like this? i know it`s not much compared to the things i used to could do but doing small things helps me keep a feeling of worth and that helps me cope. i hope that everyone had a good holiday. hopefully 2006 will be better to us all. bobby
Guest guest
Hi Bobby yes I find keeping busy if I can helps me push the pain to the back of my mind. Thats not always possible but when it is I try to keep busy as much as I can. Being outside even in the cold weather with my horses helps keep my mind off of the pain. I love the outdoors so in the spring and summer I try to do as much as I can planting flowers, gardening and so forth. I had a stimulator put in 2 yrs ago and it took me almost a year to feel like it helped me but with the new pain I have from my sciatic nerve the burning, stinging needles and numbness in my foot and leg it seems not to help But I still use it most of the time. I did wait to have it put in till I had no other options for pain relief and the pain was almost intolerable when I had it done. Nothing was helping me then. Although my surgery was almost 5 hrs it doesn't usually take that long. They had problems with using a new unit that was just coming out and it had a bad lead wire that they couldnt figure out which one it was for several hours so it took the surgeon alot longer than it was suppose too. The battery is supposed to last for 8-10 yrs before they need to replace it. MY surgeon now wants to remove it and fuse my lower spine. Not sure I am going to do that just yet. As you said I am not quite ready to go thru surgery again. Anyway hope the info on the stimulator helps you some, if you need one later. Keep busy as best as you can.
