Guest guest
Hi Dee, I'm not too familiar with the effects of the Neurontin and Valium. But would it help to try and get 8 hours of sleep instead of 5. Would you still feel weird after the extra 3 hours? If so, maybe try something else, although I'm really understanding now that almost all meds, esp. pain meds, have their downside. Our pharmacological science is far from perfect. We have all these different meds for the same problems and gosh darn if not every one of them has side effects that for many of us are intollerable. Guest guest
Dee, The combination of Neurontin and Valium will make you feel that way, it takes more than a couple hours for that feeling to wear off. You should plan your day around the taking of those meds. together, probably not a good idea to drive while taking them. I just know this from experience- and my husband's. He's a very big man, and taking those together made him feel the same way. It also affects my handwriting. I take my first dose of pain meds. when I wake up, then I wait a few hours before I have to go to appts. I schedule them around my meds. because they make me feel groggy and shaky. I wake up feeling that way- I take my last pain meds. at nite, usually with Xanax, it helps me sleep. My dentist said it's very important to take care of your teeth when you are taking pain meds. or Xanax and Valium, your mouth gets so dry, the saliva can't wash out the bacteria, and you can end up with gum disease. He said always either chew sugarless gum, or have sugarless breath mints to help activate saliva to wash out the bacteria. Hope I've been able to help a little Take care Rochelle <rccoc1977@...> wrote: Hi Dee, I'm not too familiar with the effects of the Neurontin and Valium. Guest guest
You're right. the combination is probably the problem. I had been just taking the valium at night and the Neurontin earlier in the evening. But I've been waking up so numb, that I though it would be a good idea. So much for that. I guess I'd rather feel normal mentally and be in pain. Thanks, Dee --------------------------------- Talk is cheap. Use Messenger to make PC-to-Phone calls. Great rates starting at 1¢/min. Guest guest
You just can't win, I guess. Something that helps, makes you unable to function! Maybe when I don't have to get up early I'll do the combination and maybe get some sleep. Guest guest
i have no answer as they will not give me the valium; i so need it too with everything that is going on. my psychiatrist wont put me on it because of my pain meds. i just started on the nerontin (?) but i dont have much nerve pain; at least i dont think that that is what it is. i cant take my night time meds; trazadone, because 1-it doesnt help me fall asleep; which is what i need, but it does make me too groggy no matter how i cut the dose. it just sits there. told my doc he told me to take more; dummy. rob No greater burden can be borne by an individual than to know no one cares or understands. >From: Green Darner <swampgirl55@...> >Reply-neck pain >neck pain >Subject: Too groggy >Date: Wed, 27 Sep 2006 07:51:08 -0700 (PDT) > >Do ya'll have any suggestions? > I slept really well last night. Guest guest
yeah, my wife takes my sleepy meds and it makes me mad; she wakes up way late, and i have to pop up in the morning and deal with both kids. i love them though, so it isnt a chore, especially when i think of the alternative help she would provide for them. :{ she used to be so caring, loving, helpful. i know some of you remember how much i talked about her support of me and the surgeries ive had, but now............... Guest guest
hey Dee, I took Neurontin and other sedatives for years. Your body gets us to the medication if you take it on a regular basis. Takes about two weeks for the " fogginess " to go away. I was actually a little scared when I first started taking the med because of the feeling. If it helps, take it, as prescribed by your dr. The valium is probably what is giving you the hang over feeling. By the way, don't drink alcohol and take valium. Bad mix. Neurontin has some antidepressant affect in it. It could help in that respect as well if you take it on a regular basis. regards matt Too groggy Do ya'll have any suggestions? I slept really well last night. I had taken my Neurontin and Valium before bed, and slept for 5 hrs and woke up a little stiff but the tingling and numbness wasn't too bad. Guest guest
Hi Dee do you usually take them both before going to bed? or was last nite something different for you?? It maybe one or the other one of the meds causing this. I know alot of people have side affects from taking higher doses of Neurontin, not sure how much you take. But I take the highest dose and all it ever did to me was make me sleepier. But not enough to make me sleep I wish I do know the feeling though when I took several sleep meds they did that too me especially if I didn't sleep the full 8 hrs. One med made me feel groggy and worn out the whole next day so to me it wasn't worth taking it. I've never had Valium make me feel that way but then anytime I have taken it it knocks me right out and I am a gonner for hours. But there are better things to help me sleep. Anyway it maybe because you didn't sleep very long that you feel strange, so hopefully after tonite you will feel back to your oldself by morning. SO hang in there and hang onto things till all the dizziness is gone. Not sure if any of this helps sorry if it doesn't.
