Hello Becky and all,

Good topic. Since I have had CMT since childhood, and was gregarious by

nature, I never have had any trouble making of keeping friends. My

education and career moved me around alot, so did/do my travels, so

there are a number of friends. All shapes and sizes and 'different

degrees' of relationship. I have had friends for years that recently I

told about the Foundation I started, you know 'the neuro disease I have'

their reaction " I didn't know you had anything going on " ! I still am in

touch with my 2 best friends from childhood. I have started reconnecting

with high school friends and college as well. They are thrilled I found

them through http://www.switchboard.com

I have two very wise older (15 years plus women) who I use for serious

problems and when I need REAL help. Also 1 man. My CMT and 'life

experiences' have made me incredibly strong, so in regular friendships,

I 'act as counselor/therapist' which people like to come to me for help,

opinions and direction. Now, I would never go to them for that. Since

the two wise women and one wise man are THERE for me - not only for

talk, but for things like driving me to the hospital at 3 in the

morning, etc.

Friendship is different degrees for different things. I can always find

friends for lunch or dinner or play. It is when the serious stuff comes

along, and I need serious help, I turn to the wise ones. One women is my

12 step sponsor, one is a friend of my mothers, and the man is someone I

worked with once.

I would also add that I have over 500 friends with CMT and hundreds more

from my other diease and also tons of friends I haven't even met yet.

In friendships, all kinds, if I have special needs, I just open my mouth

and ask for what I need. Whether it be help with going to the Dr., or

help with my house, or help driving long distances, because my foot is

still sore.
