Guest guest
Would this be the same as the cortisone injection? I have 2 herniated discs in my lower back due to a car accident in Nov. 2003. I went thru chiropractic and PT. And then started to see a spine Doc. (Who I continue to see.) He did a cotisone injection in my lower back. I experienced the pressure you mentioned. The first shot didn't help me I continued to have immense pain in my back and the leg pain and numbness. He did a second injection. I got great results from the second injection. I went several months with relief in my low back. Until the first of Feb. when I took 2 lengthy road trips in one week. And I was back in worse shape than I was to begin with. I couldn't walk, sit, lay down, any movement. Reclined was the only way I could get any relief. I think I may have been ok still had I not hit the road like I did. Any ways I am back to square one. I thought I received alot of benifit from the 2nd shot. And there is a limit on how many of that type shot they can do. He now talks to me about a fairly new thing where they go in with a needle and coil around the disc. And heat it. I guess the heat is suppose to stimulate healing. And then there is taking out part of my disc. They didn't sound pretty to me. I hope I may have said something helpful. Take care. Bye for now, Katrina :-)

Guest guest
WELCOME TO THE GROUP. I SEE WHERE YOU HAVE HAD A VERY GOOD RESPONSE TO YOUR INTRODUCTION TO THE GROUP. AS YOU CAN SEE THIS IS A GOOD PLACE TO COME AND SHARE YOUR EXPERIENCE WITH BACK AND NECK PROBLEMS. THERE WILL ALWAYS BE SOMEONE WHO WILL ANSWER YOU WHEN YOU NEED TO SHARE HOW YOU ARE DOING. SO ,SHARE WITH US THE UPS AND DOWNS THAT YOU HAVE. I DO NOT HAVE A RUPTURED DISK IN MY BACK, JUST ONE THAT IS BULGING AT THE L5 LEVEL. IT CAUSES ME A LOT OF PROBLEMS. {NOT BEING ABLE TO STAND ,WALK ,OR SIT FOR ANY LENGTH OF TIME} I ALSO HAVE A RUPTURED DISK IN MY NECK AT THE C5 LEVEL THAT WILL REQUIRE A FUSION AT SOME TIME IN THE FUTURE. JUST A LITTLE INFORMATION ABOUT ME. THESE TWO LITTLE PROBLEMS GIVE ME A LOT OF PAIN 24/7. WELL,SO MUCH ABOUT ME. TAKE AS BEST CARE AS YOU CAN. MAY YOU HAVE A BETTER DAY TODAY THAN YOU HAD YESTERDAY,AND NOT NEAR AS GOOD A DAY AS YOU WILL HAVE TOMORROW. LARRY JenieGirl <jeniegirl27@...> wrote: Hi everyone, My name is Jenn. I'm new to the list so I'll give you a bit of my background, so please pardon the lengthy email. When I was in elementary school I cracked my heel bone, the foot doctor had me wear a cushion in my right shoe for many years to cushion my heel - well because I was still developing, and because I was now walking with my hip slightly higher on the right side I developed scholiosis. A few years ago I sprained my lower back from moving too fast and twisting at the same time at my job. I also had an accident where a co-worker jokingly pulled my chair out from under the desk with me on it - well I stayed put and the chair went flying back sending me straight to the floor and me falling directly on my tailbone which was extemely painful. I'm now 27 years old. Recently, I started getting pain in the groin area - started as muscle pain at first on my right side. Then as the days went on it progressively got worse and went to the back of my right upper thigh and felt more like a pinched nerve pain. I went to my doctor and he sent me for x-rays which showed that the curvature of my spine was straightening which indicated to them that I was suffering from muscle spasms so they sent me for physical therapy. I went twice and felt no better, in fact almost worse so I insisted that my doctor send me for an MRI. After getting the MRI they determined that I have two herniated discs - L4-L5 and L5-S1. They sent me to a Neurosurgeon who I saw and then I also saw an Orthopedic Chief of Spine Surgeon - both explained to me what it is that's wrong with me and indicated that I should go for an anti-inflammatory epidural shot first before proceeding to surgery. Well I put it off as long as possible because I am not good with needles. But the pinched nerve pain was getting worse and going further and further down my leg to my foot. Then the numbness started kicking in going from my foot up my leg almost to my knee. I knew then that it was time to do something. So just yesterday I went for the epidural steroidal anti-inflammatory injection. The whole procedure scared me because they had an IV in me, oxygen on me, EKG's on me, oxgyen level on my finger, blood pressure, etc. They gave me a mild sedative but gave me more and more when they saw how upset and scared I was. The whole procedure went pretty well, I didn't feel the needle at all - all I felt was pressure on my back. Once I got home though I realized that my lower back is really hurting - more like an ache with a slight sharp pain now on my left side. After resting all day yesterday and all night I woke up this morning in hopes of feeling better but I'm still stiff and still in pretty severe pain. I called the pain management doctor that gave me the injection and he said I can start taking my anti-inflammatory again with tylenol. Has anyone else gone through this shot? And if so, did you experience the pain that I'm experiencing? Jenn DON'T WORRY ABOUT THE SMALL STUFF. LIFE IS TOO SHORT FOR THAT

The one causing the most concern for me is the C one. Its pinging on the spinal cord. So surgery is on the horizon, sometime soon I hope. I asked for MRI's in the past couple years, was declined them. Been in a total of three car accidents the last 10 years, then diagnosed with Fibromyalgia 4 years ago. Got the MRI 2 weeks ago, joined this group recently. My husband did the epidural like you mentioned. He did it three times. The third time the doc said if it did not work, then they will be discontinued, and onto the next step. The pain for him did not change, get better, and at times worsened. So onto the doing a Nerve block. Then surgery. What sort of pain meds are you on?
