Guest guest
I was diagnosed because I had horrible back and leg pain. I had hurt my back while installling my son's carseat in my van. Went to my primary doc, he put me on celebrex and wanted to give that 2 wks. Went back, and had an MRI done. The primary doc got the mri report and referred me to the neurosurgeon. The NS saw me and we tried two epidural steroid injections, to no avail. Then we went with surgery. I'm going to assume your hubby's had an MRI? That's the first step, I think, in making a proper diagnosis. I do know that the workman's comp doctors are hard to get a true diagnosis from. They don't like WC cases and try to stay out of them from what I've heard. They don't want to have to cost the companies more money, so they give you the the runaround. Has your hubby seen a neurosurgeon or a spine specialist? They are the best for back problems. What kind of pain is he having? Where is it located? That might help us, too, to help you figure out where to go next. Katina debbie mclean wrote: just a question for everyone-what happened to make a dr. diagnose you? my hubby is 41 and 5 years ago he got hurt on his construction job,the workmans comp dr kept telling him for 5 months that it was just neck and back strain, after he was released we found another dr who told us that he has ddd, rsd, and nerve damage, but no dr has ever been able to help him they just keep giving him more pills and he also tried pt which didn't help and neither did the cortizone shots or epidural shots. anyone here know what else to try? thanks Katina Hollman <momof2sweetboyz@...> wrote: Oh believe me, I'm not giving up. I've had that for about 6-9 months post op, and also when I tried working 4 hours a day on a computer. I've been told that tingling or numbness is a sign of nerve damage, and something's got to change, either surgery, work sked, P/T. If your able to financially he should report that to the Neurosurgeon and have it checked out. My leg would get so numb I could stab it, and not feel a thing, so I know the feeling. Guest guest
yep that's how he is-he can touch something hot with his right hand and not feel it-that's scary. he's never been to a neuro cause the mri's only showed ddd,and herniated discs at c-4/c-5 and L-1/L2 so the dr doesn't think it is nessarary.the dr did say that L-3 to L-5 is also bad now." Guest guest
i went thru the same thing before my surgery a year ago. it took almost two years before someone even suggested surgery. what kind of doctors has he been seeing? what tests have they done? do you have a family doctor? ask about surgery, ask for a referal to another doc an ortho or nero surgeon. you have to push these people. rob from va >From: debbie mclean <debbiemlean@...> >Reply-neck pain >neck pain >Subject: Re: Re: New Here-My Intro >Date: Thu, 1 Sep 2005 06:57:15 -0700 (PDT) > >just a question for everyone-what happened to make a dr. diagnose you? my >hubby is 41 and 5 years ago he got hurt on his construction job,the >workmans comp dr kept telling him for 5 months that it was just neck and >back strain, after he was released we found another dr who told us that he >has ddd, rsd, and nerve damage, but no dr has ever been able to help him they >just keep giving him more pills and he also tried pt which didn't help and >neither did the cortizone shots or epidural shots. anyone here know what >else to try? thanks > > _________________________________________________________________ Is your PC infected? From my personal experience and from talking to many back pain sufferers I think Back surgery is not an exact science. Unlike Gall bladder or even heart surgery which has very predictable results. I've had 3 back surgeries and one on my Neck. The neck was a total failure, 5 years later I'm on 24x7 pain meds. The back was probably about 50-75% successful. I no longer have Agonizing pain in my lower back on a daily basis, but I do have pain every day, and occasionally it's off the charts. When I here of people who woke up from surgery and were pain free, God bless them. I woke up and said " What did I do? " My pain was worse. I do have a brother-in -law who was totally successful. To the point where he Whaite water Rafts, Surfs, Plays Golf and rough houses with his sons, you would never know there was a time he couldn't get out of Bed. In my case the only option I've been given is exploratory surgery, because all of the Miligrams, and Cat scans and X rays show no pinched nerves, or obvious cause for my very real pain. Plus my original Neurosurgeon has about given up, because He doesn't like it when I say the surgery was not a success. I'm not trying to scare you away from surgery, but we are here to learn from each others experience. This has been my Experience. Guest guest
Hi Debbie I had the same thing bulging disc not sure where the ones you are talking about are. Mine is my entire lower back but the worst one was at L5 & S1 and I did have surgery on it. Less than a month later it was back for no reason I had been VERY GOOD after my surgery. Even a neur will tell you its a 50/50 chance it will work. I know I tried everything before I had surgery to get the inflmation down and nothing worked, I just got worse. Finally I found a neuro that DIDN't refuse me and I had it done. But I am in worse pain now over 2 yrs later so tell him to think real hard BEFore he has it done there is no guarantee it will help. Not knowing what else he has tried I'd suggest PT, water therapy, slow stretches (I put some of these in the links) but make sure you ok anything with the dr first. Also he might try Biofeedback or accupture, all bandaids I know but maybe one will help. And there is also a treatment you can get to decompress the spine and help open up the disk, he might look into that too. Just some ideas hope you don't mind the advice but I have been there and its 5 yrs later and I am worse, no help from the surgery. best wishes Sharon Group Owner > he has had mri's which showed the bulging discs,he had xrays, and he had the nerve conduction test and also the mylegram done. he has a family dr. and he went to an ortho once besides the workmans comp dr. they all said the same thing-nothing they can do besides keep giving him pills. i'm so frustrated with all of it,i would think surgery would help but the ortho dr. said it's a 50-50 shot. should i push for him to see a neuro dr? thanks. > > > > > > >

Just some ideas hope you don't mind the advice but I have been there and its 5 yrs later and I am worse, no help from the surgery. best wishes Sharon Group Owner > he has had mri's which showed the bulging discs,he had xrays, and he had the nerve conduction test and also the mylegram done. he has a family dr. and he went to an ortho once besides the workmans comp dr. they all said the same thing-nothing they can do besides keep giving him pills. i'm so frustrated with all of it,i would think surgery would help but the ortho dr. said it's a 50-50 shot. should i push for him to see a neuro dr? thanks. > > > > > > >
Guest guest
tell your family doctor that you want a new doctor to look at everything. I had a bad experience with a nero, but good with the ortho so im not sure about which kind of doctor, but you definately need a new doctor. with the back nothing is guaranteed as far as surgery goes so they are going to keep telling you to try this and this and this. Tell them you want surgery. good luck rob in va >From: debbie mclean <debbiemlean@...> >Reply-neck pain >neck pain >Subject: Re: Re: New Here-My Intro >Date: Fri, 16 Sep 2005 09:35:11 -0700 (PDT) > >he has had mri's which showed the bulging discs,he had xrays, and he had the >nerve conduction test and also the mylegram done. he has a family dr. and >he went to an ortho once besides the workmans comp dr. they all said the >same thing-nothing they can do besides keep giving him pills. i'm so >frustrated with all of it,i would think surgery would help but the ortho >dr. said it's a 50-50 shot. should i push for him to see a neuro dr? >thanks. > > Gehle <robgehle@...> wrote: >i went thru the same thing before my surgery a year ago. it took almost two >years before someone even suggested surgery. what kind of doctors has he >been seeing? what tests have they done? do you have a family doctor? ask >about surgery, ask for a referal to another doc an ortho or nero surgeon. >you have to push these people. > >rob from va > > >From: debbie mclean > >Reply-neck pain > >neck pain > >Subject: Re: Re: New Here-My Intro > >Date: Thu, 1 Sep 2005 06:57:15 -0700 (PDT) > > > >just a question for everyone-what happened to make a dr. diagnose you? my > >hubby is 41 and 5 years ago he got hurt on his construction job,the > >workmans comp dr kept telling him for 5 months that it was just neck and > >back strain, after he was released we found another dr who told us that he > >has ddd, rsd, and nerve damage, but no dr has ever been able to help him >they > >just keep giving him more pills and he also tried pt which didn't help >and > >neither did the cortizone shots or epidural shots. anyone here know what > >else to try? thanks > > > > > >_________________________________________________________________ >Is your PC infected?
