I had a laminectomy and I ended up with horrible left leg pain afterwards. I finally had a dorsal spinal stimulator put in over a year ago and I can't say it gets rid of all the pain but it has made it alot more bearable most of the time.You will find several of us suffer from leg pain so you aren't alone. I am hoping this is just post op pain, but I'm not sure. The feeling like I have an ice pick in my back is the worst. I can't walk more than 1/8 of a mile before I'm really hurting and have to stop. I see my neurosurgeon again on 9-8 for a post op follow up and we'll see what he says about it then. I'm most concerned with the ice pick feeling really. Last week it did that too me for several days and nothing helped even my stimulator but its not 100% foolproof alot of times it helps but sometimes it won't. Best wishes. But they can test for RSD and they should have done that with him too. Hope some of this helps. It goes down the left side of his body and yes he lives on pain pills. Don't give up.
