I know that I have said this before but the messages posted here seem

to all sound like they are coming out of my mouth. First, it is so

true that what ww all trully wish is to be pain free or at least have

a good day every once in a while. But I believe a lot of our pain

comes from the neglect in the medical system. We all know stress

effects our pain and when you are ignored over and over again by

physicans it takes a toll on your body. I have seen over 7 dr's the

pat 4 years and not just regular specialists but highly credited

orthopedics surgeons. And of course, like others, he said " deal with

your pain, football players deal with it all the time, get over it "

I'M NOT A FOOTBALL PLAYER GETTING DEMOROL INJECTIONS EVERY 4 HRS. I

WAS JUST A 20YR OLD GIRL AT THE TIME. I even had drs and therapists

tell me that they didn't want to see me anymore because they couldn't

help me. They didn't say that but that's why. Like the other

message said, medical science still has so much to learn about back

pain which is what causes so much of us to feel so lost. But I do

know that I would much rather have a dr say to me that he doesn't

know how to help me than to make me feel like I'm imagining my pain

or that I'm a wimp for not sucking it up. There is a lot of

discrimination in the medical profession. For me I was a young girl

who looked healthy on the outside. Drs assumed that I just was there

to get pain meds when in fact I was there to get answers or at least

some direction. Some of these drs made me cry. I have never in my

life felt so belittled and unworthy. The sad truth is that because

of the long time of over 2 yrs not having any drs care to listen, my

unilateral break turned into a bilateral break. There's no way I can

prove the drs neglected me but I will always remember the mental and

emotional pain they gave me and in some ways it was much worse than

the back pain.

HMO's are a whole other story. Insurance comps have certain

protocols that they make the drs have to follow and if they do, the

dr takes home more money in his pocket. This is what causes us so

many problems. When i went to my primary physician after my car

accident I explained the pain I was having in my legs, (common sense

tells me that when you have pain in both legs it is usually from your

back), I asked him to issue me some x-rays. He wouldn't allow me to

have x-rays until I took some meds to see if they helped and then if

they didn't to see another dr and so on. I had to fight to get what

I needed and I educated myself. As they said in the movie " Vanilla

Sky " , drs get their power from jargon, so you need to study up.

Anyway, I just went and had my 4 month x-rays done and there was a

problem in that the techinician was going to ignore the fact that

there were 3 x-rays needed to be done. I read my prescription before

I gave it to him and I needed an AP x-ray, lateral x-ray, and a

ferguson x-ray. He comes in and says we're done and I say we didn't

do the ferguson x-ray. He says, " what's that, I've only heard of

doing that x-ray if you have scoliosis. Do you? " I couldn't believe

that he was just going to ignore the prescription. I had to tell him

how to do it and then he did. In the end this was the x-ray that

really showed how far my fusion was coming along.

The end result is this: We have to know what we need and not rely on

others to do it for us. It's ok to question things.

This message wasn't supposed to be so long, sorry guys.

Take care everyone and happy holidays.
