Guest guest
All, is the young man running across America to raise awareness and funds for JA. For a new college graduate to decide to do this for our kids is awesome! If you can possibly donate to help him reach his goal, please do so. No amount is too small! If you are unable to donate but would like to support I'm sure an encouraging email would be appreciated. You can find his email address and other info below. He runs 28 miles to Aliceville, where he is hosted by Lawrence and Tricia Lavender. Along the road, a pickup truck passes , then pulls over about 100' down the road. 2 guys get out of the truck. One says, " Hey, we saw you on TV. Can we get a picture? " said sure. It was Hunter and his son Jay, who were just coming back from wild-turkey hunting. So they grabbed that turkey, slapped it on the ground so they could take some pictures with . (Check out our website <http://mysite.verizon.net/res0y1ar/id9.html> " People " page for picture.) When went home he checked out 's website. He dropped us a line through our web site and noticed that was staying with the Eatmans Tuesday night and said he knows him well; he also is a big wild-turkey hunter. Much thanks to the Lavenders. 2. Thanks much to Vicki Connerly. 4. Thursday - n, AL has a bit of a story. About a week ago when I was researching lodging for , I sent out my standard letters to the Mayor, City Council, Chamber of Commerce, Running Clubs, etc. When looking at Google Maps for n, I noticed there was a n Military Institute (MMI) located in town. I thought that might be a viable option. They could host then he could speak to the student body. I sent them my standard email. I still had their website up and I started poking around. I saw a link to the President of MMI. When I selected the link up popped a picture of Col Dave Mollahan <http://www.marionmilitary.edu/about-mmi/presidents-message.da> , retired, USMC. In 1982 I joined my first tactical squadron, HMM-161 at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Tustin, CA. I was a single, brand new 2ndLt and Capt Dave Mollahan was a highly respected pilot in the squadron. We spent many hours together, him teaching me to fly the CH-46 helicopter. And low and behold, 28 years later I'm knocking on his cyber-door in a small town in Alabama, to host my oldest, , for a night. had a great night in n with Dave, his wife Ingrid, friends Molly and Dan Thornton, and other friends at a potluck dinner. Small world! (Check out our website <http://mysite.verizon.net/res0y1ar/id9.html> " People " page for other pictures.) Then I'm talking on Saturday to my neighbor, Becky McNulty also residing in VA. Her husband Dennis is a retired Marine. So I'm telling her the tale of connecting with an old Marine buddy, and she looks at me at says, " You mean Ingrid Mollahan? " They were neighbors in MCAS Cherry Point and hadn't seen each other since 1992. I think another connection has been made. Much thanks to the Mollahans, Thorntons and all the new friends made in n. 5. Friday morning I got an email from (hosted on March 24th in MS). He said he saw the picture of the turkey on our website and he knows Hunter real well; they're both in the timber business. That old turkey has connected more people. left n, AL and ran 28 miles to Selma. About 10 miles from n, his Aunt Marie from Huntsville, AL connected with . He was able to ditch his jogger in her car; what a relief. Later, heading down the road, he saw a small group of people congregating. It was and his family there to cheer him on. The s had hosted on March 24th in Kosciusko, MS. They were on their way to visit family for Easter and decided to swing by and say hello. (By the way , this is the third time you're mentioned in this Weekly Summary; you get the prize for this week.) Aunt Marie made the 8-hour round trip (Huntsville-Selma-Huntsville) to pick up . He'll be spending Easter weekend with Uncle Rich, Aunt Marie and his cousins and Mia in Huntsville. 6. Saturday - a very relaxing day with the fam in Huntsville. 7. Sunday - Easter Service and an early Easter dinner with the family in Huntsville. Aunt Marie drives back to Selma. Because he has an extremely busy schedule for Monday and Tuesday in Prattville/Montgomery, he punches out 15 miles to get ahead of the power curve. They are hosted by Dr. Lee , his wife Becky and their 3 children in Selma, AL. We really appreciate the generosity provided by the family. Much thanks also goes to the Muschek family of Huntsville, AL (Uncle Rich, Aunt Marie, and Mia) for a tremendous amount of support the past 3 days and sharing with him your Easter holiday. 8.
