Torn meniscus, surgery, severe/near fatal staph, more surgery and eventually a portion of the meniscus was removed.....a year later the knee is still giving him grief and on Monday he fell, the knee swelled and was hurting more than normal. I took him to his ortho who seems disinterested. He looked at the knee, no xrays or mri ordered and said it was a sprain......putting weight on his knee is bad enough that he has remained home to stay in the bed. With all that this knee has endured I am keeping a watchful eye on it. He actually had an appoinment next week to have the knee checked because it is no better from last year. Now the fall. Doc said cancel next week no need to come back! does not have arthritis but this predisposes him to it. Without menisci he has bone on bone and I worry.....am I being one of those moms or should I insist on mri or see another doc or what??? I know many of you have come to me with questions and if this were your question I know what I would say...but what would you do if you were me??? help and thanks! Guest guest
If your son has had that much problem a year ago, the Doctor should be even more concerned now. Why would a doctor let a child endure that much pain? I say get a second opinion now, do not wait. Guest guest
Sorry is still having issues. I know I said it before, but I would get a second opinion and I highly recommend Dr Jeffery Pierson in Indianapolis. He is great! He does more knee surgeries than any other dr in the state of Indiana, according to the article I read. He did wonderful work on my mother's torn tendon. If it were one of my kids, I would cancel the appt and find a dr, especially an orthopedist who specializes in sports medicine. Guest guest
Donna, You are a veteran here and it is you who usually gives us advice. You know what to do. Go with your gut. And with you asking us, your gut is already telling you to get another opinion. I am lying here in bed, typing this email. I had meniscus surgery two days ago. I went to two docs before I decided on surgery. I hurt my knee running with our ped rheumy. She told me the magical words which would get me a fast MRI. Say it " pops, locks, and clicks. " Perhaps it is only a sprain with your son, but only an MRI would be able to tell that. That is my humble opinion. ( has a knee the size of a cantalope and I am very anxious to recover so I can run again) Sent from my iPod On Sep 1, 2010, at 8:12 AM, " Tepper, Michele " <MTepper@...> wrote: > Sorry is still having issues. Guest guest
Sounds like has an excellent referral for you. Call and get in ASAP. If he can't bear weight, can't get around etc he needs to be seen. Or start with the ER and then go for the referral. ER can likely get you into the MRI quicker. Good luck!! e, mom to " joe " 23, poly + (who got MARRIED on 7/02!!!) Guest guest
Donna, I will just say ditto to what the others have said here and on fb. I will pray for you to find a good ortho, one that will give you the time you need to discuss it and one with a good bedside manner.
