Today our family is somewhat shaken.  Shea has been at the same Catholic school

since kindergarten.  She is a very good student.  In October,  Shea was

diagnosed with JIA.  She was a cheerleader at her school.  She had lots of

energy starting 6th grade.  Early in the school year her health declined.  A

504 plan was written at school.  Shea worked hard at home to make up work

missed due to arthritis flares and dr. appointments.  Grades have remained good

until the last quarter. She is passing all subjects and will be promoted.  It

has been hard to keep Shea caught up but we have managed.

Today the principal e-mailed me at work calling a

meeting.  My husband and I showed up unknowing the reason for the meeting.  We

thought perhaps the 504 was going to be discussed and revised.  I am sad to say

that we were told that they don’t want Shea to return next year because of her

medical needs.  This is a hard hit.  This has always been Shea’s school.

We don’t know what to do about Shea’s education. She is exceptionally smart.

Of course, her health is not predictable.  Has anyone else had a similar

experience?  Thanks!  Reasoner
