My daughter started the Methotrexate injection yesterday. She is acting just

fine with no vomiting although yesterday she did gag a few times. However, this

is my concern and not sure WHAT to do about it!

After the injection, she ate like 3 french fries for a late lunch/dinner around

4pm. She would not eat a snack. She finally later did eat 3 chicken nuggets. She

did not drink her Vital Jr milk last night at all. She MAY have taken 1 ounce

out of the 8 ounces she was supposed to drink. This morning she asked for more

" good milk. " I gave her 4 ounces and she did not drink it. She wanted water with

the Propel packets in it. She took maybe two sips and that was it. She has not

eaten anything I have given her this morning. However, she ACTS fine!!! She is

playing with her brothers but just not eating and drinking. Any ideas what is up

with this and what to DO about it?!?!

I thought we had escaped the nausea and vomiting that comes with this injection.

She takes Prilosec twice a day, Calcium Carbonate (Tums) 1/2 twice per day plus

they gave her Phenergen so I was thinking that must have helped. Does the side

effects usually come with the first shot?

ANY input on this would be greatly appreciated!!! I am going to make some decaf

tea to try to get her to drink it . (her fav drink) Hopefully someone will see

this within the next couple of hours and can tell me what to do!

My son has been on MXT injections since May 2009 and has had no side

effects...he does take folic acid which helps. We do his injection on Friday

nights...right before bed ...and the only thing we notice is that he's tired on

Saturday.

We waited about 10 weeks before we started Enbrel...the MTX alone did nothing.

But once we added the Enbrel he started improving immediately...and now we begin

the long process of trying to wean him from the MTX.

Anyway we deciced on right before bed so that if the injection did bother hi

....he'd sleep right through it.

All the best,

We are doing the injections on Friday afternoons. Right now, she is going to the

pediatrician's office for at least one more injection. Then home health will

come into the home to do them. It took 3 of us to hold her down for the

injection and she fought like crazy and screamed!

Lillian was tired a bit and just a bit " off " Friday and Saturday. Today she

seems fine though! I am afraid to hope we are getting by with few side effects.

She does take the Folic Acid and they gave her Phenergen at the time of the

injection.

It is too bad that the MTX does not come in a " pen " injection form!
