Guest guest
HI nn-  I'm so sorry has to go through this... and I know how you feel. It is unbelievable isn't it? But I'm so hopeful for you that the kineret will work quickly.  She is so brave and mature.... if the shot works, all that energy she is spending on dealing with pain and inflammation will help her deal with the daily shots, and getting back to the business of being a kid  I know it's not easy to start.... but I " m excited for you. Many kids see results so quickly! Hope the insurance doesn't throw up roadblocks.....  Let us know how it goes- Best hopes - colleen From: nn <rosannwinn@...> Subject: Kineret, here we come Date: Monday, September 20, 2010, 10:17 PM  had her appointment with the Rheumy today; quite the visit. She has swelling in both wrists, knees, and ankles. We did some baseline x-rays to assess damage. We got a referral to start some PT and OT in the affected joints. Labs were very frustrating - high ESR, high CRP, low HGB. Thankfully liver functions were normal - 's had some liver issues in the past. is on Mobic, max dose injected methotrexate, and 5mg prednisone. We came home today with a script for Kineret. I can't believe we are " here " but here we are! was such a big girl with the doctor, so brave when telling her that " if the Kineret works then maybe it will be worth the daily shot " . So, assuming the insurance process is smooth we are on our way in a couple of days. I feel slightly sick to my stomach at this advance in treatment, but also hopeful that it will improve things for and get her disease under control. nn (, 9, systemic, onset Oct 09)
Guest guest
Hi Colleen Boy it was hard to hand that Kineret script to the pharmacist! But I did it and then went and had a large Mocha at my favorite coffeeshop. Just when I started feeling actual excitement for the possibility of this new drug I got a call that insurance had denied it. I thought about what I could sell to pay the $2,000 per month, I thought about how many more part-time jobs I could get ... then my husband talked me down from the ceiling and said let's wait for the doc to get whatever documentation is necessary to the insurance folks. We're not too worried about it, but the process is annoying. It's not like I wrote the script myself - I turned in the signed order from the Rheumy! Anyway, I'm putting it out of my mind for today since it's my other daughter's 6th birthday. Gotta go and have a cupcake with her at school. Have a great day! nn > > > From: nn <rosannwinn@...> > Subject: Kineret, here we come > > Date: Monday, September 20, 2010, 10:17 PM > > > Â > > > > had her appointment with the Rheumy today; quite the visit. Guest guest
nn, Do not fret yet.A lot of the Biologics have to be approved by the insurance company so you are initially denied. They ask for medical records to prove your child needs this drug.Luckily Kiniret is FDA approved for children. I had to go through this back in 2002 when started Enbrel.I was told it could take a couple weeks but within a couple days a case worker for our insurance company called me, crying about how bad she felt that we were dealing with this. Have you realy looked at your insurance policy concerning drug coverage and co pays. It still might cost you a pretty penny but no where near the $2,000. If you do a little research you might find that the makers have an assistant program to help you out. You just need to try and take it easy, but if you need to fight then break out the claws and go for it. Guest guest
nn, I sure hope that you enjoyed that cupcake and also the Mocha. Take a deep breath and listen to your husband. Think more about this as just a delay then a denial. I will pray for your insurance company to reevaluate their opinion and listen to what the doctor said. Also prayers for . Guest guest
Well, we're working through the approval process. We have Anthem, but our prescriptions are covered through Medco. It looks like it will be covered no problem, but we'll have to get the Kineret via the mail order program. Hopefully we can start the new med by Monday. Thanks for your encouragement everyone. 's ankles and wrists are acting up again, since her regular Friday night Mtx shot, and she had quite a bit of rash yesterday after school. It's clear to me that the methotrexate, low dose pred, and Mobic are just not enough. I'm ready to start the Kineret to see if we can have some success in controlling this beast. I hope your kiddos are doing well today. Take care. nn > > > > > > From: nn <rosannwinn@> > > Subject: Kineret, here we come > > > > Date: Monday, September 20, 2010, 10:17 PM > > > > > > Â > > > > > > > > had her appointment with the Rheumy today; quite the visit. Guest guest
We have Anthem and have to use the mail-away pharmacy for Enbrel. We've had absolutely no issues so far (2 years). Hope it goes smoothly for you once they finish the paperwork part. Most importantly, hope the Kineret works!! good luck!
