Guest guest
Bummer. I'm from Michigan and can't seem to register because of the postal address not being from Canada. Please share the information with the group after the event. Thank you! On Sat, Mar 27, 2010 at 12:07 PM, ne Y <susannefountain@...>wrote: > > > JIA Webinar playing now. Guest guest
Ok, so I'm posting some of the info that I took notes on while watching the webinar. there was so much info there was no way to remember everything. But the webinar will be posted in April on the Canadian Arthritis Society site so you should be able to see it then. It was really informative so I encourage especially newly diagnosed to watch it if possible. Please if I have interpreted something wrong or have the wrong info, reply and correct me ) I would like to hear any opinions or experiences with any of this information. - Oligo can turn into another " sub type " of arthritis. Poly cannot. Poly will stay Poly. - You can be sytemic with out having the actual pain of arthritis for years and before getting all the symptoms (fever, rash etc). (My daughter is not systemic so I'm not sure what this means.) - It is the TNF cells that make you feel achy and tired when flared. It is the Biologics that block the TNF. - Biologics (Remicade, Humira etc) block TNF cells from telling your immune system to attack joints causing arthritis, but they will also tell your Immune system to ignore cancer cells as well in the process (Eeeek scary!.) - MTX is a type of chemotherapy and possible side effects MAY include- nausea, mouth sores, diarrhea, hair loss, liver damage, problems with bone marrow. ( I have read that in rare cases it can cause Aplastic anemia) - " outgrowing " JIA depends on severity at diagnosis. the more joints involved the less chance that a child will outgrow it. - getting a cold or the flu can trigger a flare because it triggers a response form the Immune system. So keeping Immunizations up to date is important. - When trying to come off of any of the medications it is important to do it VERY VERY slowly. ne & na 6 (Poly & Uveitis - MTX & remicade ) From: susannefountain@... Guest guest
I'm so glad that you found it informative. I really thought it was great. I never understood how the MTX and Remicade actually worked in the body and this explained it so well. Arthritis is all so confusing, and knowledge is power for me. I guess they are posting the Webinar on the website (Canadian Arthritis Society)in April. I will be watching it again for sure as there was just so much information in it. ne & na (Poly & Uveitis remicade & MTX) > > > I thought that this was one of the best " introduction to biologics " that I have ever heard. I might add that I have heard many speakers, mostly at the AJAO Conferences in the US, but they way this one was presented was wonderful. > > Many thanks to the person who passed this along to the group! > > > > > Widdis > > >
