Thanks for keeping us updated. Tell him that we are all rooting for him.? Does

he have any idea how long he will be in the hospital.?

Another Uncle Rusty update

I talked to him about an hour ago, he is doing fine. They did the incision and

drainage. He couldn't remember much about what the doctor told him..but thinks

that they said the infection is localized. He has a deformity of his foot from

the arthritis, and it has made a big bunion (huge, really) after all these years

of walking on it...and that is where the infection started. He doesn't know if

they had to whittle on that or not, he will know more in the morning. At any

rate, probably looking at IV antibiotics for awhile...

Uncle Rusty had to have an IVC filter (filter in the vena cava) placed last

Wednesday morning, and then underwent incision, drainage and debridement of some

hypertrophic bone in his foot wednesday evening. The offending infection is

unfortunately, MRSA. He is going to need 6 weeks of IV vancomycin as well as

daily dressing changes to his foot wound, which had to be left open because of

the infection. As a result, he is going to need daily nursing care and will

probably have to enter a skilled rehab facility for at least 6 weeks.

Please continue to keep him in your thoughts and prayers. As soon as he

transfers to a facility, I will provide his address so you can send him cards.

Just wanted to add I just got off the phone with and he is not in the

greatest of spirits about all that is happening and is equally disappointed

about entering a " facility " . he does know its the best thing for him and is

going willingly. However being the Rusty we all know he is keeping it positive.

I would like to encourage anyone who can to send him a hello and well wishes

once he gets to the rehab facility......
