Guest guest
Hi Chonette, Thanks for your advice. My RBC is 4.78 and hemoglobin is 14.4. According to my doctor, everything is in the normal range except my WBC. My husband's ancesters are from Luxemburg. His father is the only one that emigrated to the U.S. ArleneChonette <chonette@...> wrote: Dear Arlene, Your counts still very low, I think if they double in one year still low and as Prof. Hamblin says 'they treat the patient no the white cells'. At the moment your counts seem quite low to me and you are feeling well, if I were you I would hold treatment until other symptoms appear. It is not just the WBC that can affect our lifes, haemoglobin and platelets are important,, if you feel like sharing your other counts with us, we can get a better picture. I started a low doses treatment because my Hb and platelets went down and my marrow was saturated with CLL cells and not working, but my white cells on the periferical blood were not very high. regards Chonette PS. I have a very good friend in the UK whose name is also Diederich, she is from German background, I never heard of the name before, you might be related! wbc Hi Everyone, I've just returned from my blood test and Doctor's appointment. I refused a cat scan. My doctor thinks that if my white blood count doubles in in 1 year I need to start treatment. It went from 23.4 on 11/5 to 36.6 on 09/06. I am scheduled to have another blood test in Dec. I feel fine and my lynph nodes don't seem any larger. Does this seem logical? I am reluctant to have treatment as I don't do well on medicine. I seem to react unfavorably to most. If I must take Tylenol, I only take 1. Thanks for any help you can give. Guest guest
Mine is 3 times elevated more then normal and my son is twice what normal should be... My t cell count is way way high with low natural killer cells. I was told it is not consistent with either... --- c vdl <jczij@...> wrote: > I've heard several people mention high white blood > cell counts. Guest guest
Ruth, For what it's worth, I used to work on a post-op floor and saw many back surgery patients. Your surgeon should know the CLL dx and the history of your climbing numbers before going into surgery. He or she may wish to consult with your hem/onc before proceeding. Don't arrive for the surgery without communicating the issue directly to the surgeon or his staff. Ann Gas prices getting you down? Search AOL Autos for fuel-efficient used cars. Guest guest
I am a newer member, and have a question. I was at MDA for dx May 6. My WBC was 49. I went for BMT results on May 22 and WBC was 63. I am having back surgery Tuesday of next week. My blood work just came back. My WBC is 82.5, with all other blood counts relatively stable. They are in normal ranges, but are borderline low. This being so, should I be worried because of the WBC. The Lymphocyte is 84%, which is only 2% higher. I am still coming to terms with these numbers and exactly what they mean. Guest guest
Thanks Ann, The internist has already faxed the results to my surgeon, I gave him copies of all my test from MDA last week. It was at his request that I had a pretty extensive pre-op workup, but I do intend to discuss these results with him tomorrow. Ruth
Guest guest
Ruth, It is more important to look at the total number of lymphocytes, not the precentage. But also remember the normal red blood count and platelets are very important as well. Rick Furman > > I am a newer member, and have a question. I was at MDA for dx May 6. My WBC was 49. Guest guest
Re doubling times: Our hematologist who is a CLL expert, and Dr. Hamblin, have both said that at low counts ALC cannot be relied upon and to look to total WBC. Yet, I often see comments to the contrary here. Is there a magic number at which ALC becomes the number to watch? On his blog, for example, Dr. Hamblin says that an ALC doubling from 4 to 8 is probably meaningless, but not so as you go up to higher numbers. I have also seen doctors say " don't look at the percents, look at the numbers " , but in the early days is when the percents change a lot...as a higher and higher percent of the WBC becomes abnormal cells. Does anyone have an explanation for the contradictions? Thanks, Helene

Guest guest
WBC Judi - that jump over a year is not excessively alarming More important, check your % lymphocytes, then multiply white count by % lymphocytes, you get absolute lymphocytes. Repeat the process for then and now. The doubling rate of absolute lymphocytes is important. Can we post this exchange to the group, some might be interested. Unless you prefer to remain private..... Hi , Unfortunately, I have been unable to be involved with meetings or conference calls because I've been out of town quite a bit.
