Guest guest
Hello all, 's Rhuemy just called and said that her MRI showed arthritis in her TMJ and that she would need injections directly into the joint. I was just wondering if there are any of you who have had to do this and if you could tell us what we can expect. The doctor told us it would be done at the children's hospital, and I am sure that we will get more information when she is schedueled, but first hand experiences are always better. Thank you all. Guest guest
Hi , Yes, my daughter has had it done. We have a cracker jack oral surgeon here in Portland who is at the cutting edge with the stuff. He works hand in hand with the pediatric rheumatologist. I know some of the ped rheumys will do it with CT as a guide. Dr. Bell, the oral surgeon, does not. He lavages the joint with saline at first and then injects the steroid. n was put to sleep. The younger children seem not to have any pain afterwards, but n's jaw was sore for about a week. She had a limited range of motion for about a week, and then was great. She has no more pain! Dr. Bell always wants an MRI every six months of the joint. n is 20. Dr. Bell was a speaker at one of our support meetings and was very informative on the process. Many of his patients were at the meeting so that is how I know that the younger patients don't have much pain after the injection. Guest guest
na had injections done to quite a few joints when she was 3 and newly diagnosed. They did put her to sleep, and while she was out, they put casts on her legs because her legs weren't straight. They took the casts off the following week. She was groggy when she woke up but seemed overall good. She went from crawling on the floor screaming in pain to running within a week. I would recommend this for sure as it helped na immediately and kept her arthritis under control until her MTX kicked in (approx.3 months). Good luck and keep us posted! ne (na 5 Poly) > > Hello all, > 's Rhuemy just called and said that her MRI showed arthritis in her TMJ and that she would need injections directly into the joint.
