Guest guest
Western Ky. family to get new home http://www.kentucky.com/latest_news/story/931067.html Friday, Sep. 11, 2009 OWENSBORO, Ky. -- Volunteers have been working around the clock to help complete a new home for a western Kentucky family chosen to be featured on the ABC show " Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. " Steve and Mattingly and their two daughters are getting a 3,200-square-foot home on the site at Maceo near Owensboro where they have lived in a 700-square-foot mobile home. The Mattinglys will get to see their new home for the first time Saturday afternoon, and area residents are welcome to attend, the Messenger-Inquirer in Owensboro reported. http://www.messenger-inquirer.com Steve Mattingly, a volunteer firefighter, was injured when he was hit by a car in December 2007 while directing traffic at a garage fire. Mattingly works as a massage therapist and is an EMT. Their daughters also have medical problems. Madison, 11, has juvenile rheumatoid arthritis and recently had hand surgery after an accident. Alana, 12, recently had a partial knee transplant and is still recovering. The family has spent the week in the Bahamas. On Thursday, the ABC show spent several hours at Windy Hollow Raceway filming the demolition of the family's mobile home by a monster truck. The mobile home was moved from the family's land. Several designers from the show, including Didiayer Snyder, Moloney and special guest designer and rapper Xzibit, attended and filmed scenes for the demolition, the newspaper reported. Snyder said there was " no way " for them to fix up the mobile home to give away, so the monster truck demolition was a chance to have fun with it. Hundreds of local volunteers have joined in the work to build the family's new home. Tommy , president of the company that designed the home, said volunteers were " working in great spirit and harmony. " Snyder, whose expertise is in interior design and carpentry, said, " It's pretty amazing to think (about) how many people ... come out to help.
