We use it for trips to the Mall or other shopping, pretty much any where he might have to do a lot of walking. We found out at age 13 that he had congenital hip dysplasia. You couldn't tell by looking at him only that he was walking less and limping more and more for about a year. He tripped and fell in Dec. 1999 and broke his foot so the doctors thought that the limping was a result of the break. We found out in January that the problem was his hip dislocating. Guest guest
Hi Pam: We have a Graco " Duo Rider " side by side (I call it the " doublewide " ) stroller. Don't know if this link will work, but I'll give it a shot: http://www.expressbaby.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD & Store_Code=EB & Produ\ ct_Code=6555LG & Category_Code=Double_Strollers I still use it w/the boys even tho they both walk. They just get tired really quick!! Mike wanted to ditch all the strollers once the boys were walking full time - Men!!! We got it at Baby Superstore (just before they became Baby's R us!). It goes for about $100 and I've seen it in other stores. Do you have " Burlington Coat Factory Stores " near you? They have a great baby section Called " Baby Depot " . I've seen them there too. I also have two umbrella strollers and some stroller connecters that I got at Babys R Us. Or, how about a re-sale shop? There are several in my area that are just for kids clothes and equipment and I know they always have a couple in stock. I wouldn't suggest the front-to-back kind of stroller because the girls are big and they are really meant for babies. The kid in the back usually gets their legs squashed!! Plus I've heard the more weight in them the harder they are to manouver. The only time I have trouble w/the doublewide is if I'm going into an " older " building that's not ADA compliant (doors wide enuf for a wheelchair). Or, you could buy a regular single stroller and buy an attachment that goes on the back for to stand on Check this out: http://www.lots4tots.com/stroller-accessories.html Judi __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Hi Pam, One of the best gifts I received when the twins were born was a twin baby jogger., called the Twinner. Sara was just in it this a.m. while I jogged, so it has been used over the span of six years. Their phone # in Yakima, WA is (509)457-0925. The down side of this jogger is that it does not fold up, so maybe in six years they have improved upon that feature. Best of luck in your search. Guest guest
I'm a lurker on the list (hoping to get our story typed up to post soon) but I had to tell you about the stroller we are using. It is the Gozo 1x2 for Two. I'm not sure about the weight capacity on this. My girls are only 21 months. The first link is for the manufacturers web site. (If you decide to buy you could probably find a better deal elsewhere) The other 2 links are reviews. I am in the process of trying to find a stroller for the twins. I need a double one so I can take the girls places by myself. I have two strollers here but they have out grown them. I called the baby superstore in Nashville but they didn't have anything. I need one that will hold their weight. Together they weigh about 92 ilbs. I've been searching the web for some and found the Instep 10K jogging stroller, Dreamer Ditto double and Twinner II-16. The in step is more affortable. I was wondering if anybody knows anything about these and what kind do you guys use? I know some of you have the older children. Do you use a stroller for them? is still not walking and Hannah walks but is very slow and will not walk up steps. I really need a stroller. Let me know what you think. Thanks, ===== Pam Mom to Identical twins Hannah (Hannah Banana), (Huggy Bear) age 5, Josh 19 and Dusty 14 __________________________________________________
Guest guest
I babysit for a family that has one of the double jogger stroller (side by side .. instead of front to back). It is great because that way both kids can see everything in front of them AND it's easy to push and turn. It also allows the kids to talk and interact with each other better, being right next to each other. The jogger strollers are really strong too! I know a family who uses one for their 11 year old (who is small for her age, but still pretty heavy... has physical and developmental disabilities). I have also babysat for families that have the front to back jogger (I always feel like it is miles long in front of me) and the regular (non jogger) side by sides and the regular (non jogger) front to back. I still think that the jogger side by side is easier to control. JMO! Sara
Guest guest
We have a peg perego twin stroller. My inlaws bought it on line before the boys were born. We love it. It is big though. The boys can both face forward, back towards, or away from each other. Once you get the hang of pushing it, it is really easy to navigate. I walk every night with the boys up and down our hilly neighborhood. I don't think I would take our stroller off road. I would get a jogging stroller. mom to Amy (13), Kelsey (11), Davey (DS) 14 months, and Will 14 months Re: Strollers I babysit for a family that has one of the double jogger stroller (side byside .. instead of front to back). Guest guest
Hi Lee Ann, You might try to find a Runabout stroller. They are expensive but sturdy as all get out. They do hold their value well for resale. Lots of times you can find a used one through multiples organizations, such as Mothers of twins, etc. I have one of their quad strollers. It is the easiest thing in the world to push. Connie Single Mom to (7), and Austin (5), DS-ASD (5) and (5) strollers Does any one know where I can find a double stroller that can handle over 100 pounds? We have a double stroller with who has DS at around 40 pounds and who has DS at 24 pounds, the wheels are bending. It is not a huge problem right now but by next summer I am sure we will need something that can handle some weight. I know I could get a special single stroller but I have not seen any in the double style. I anticipate having to have both kids in strollers for a while. Especially when we go out to a place like Cedar Point or to the zoo or even shopping at the mall. For some reason they love to RUN! Hi Lee Ann, I am in the process of trying to get a Convaid stroller for Maddie (7, DS and autism). They are very expensive and I've contacted a medical supply company and we've done an intake. I'm waiting for the next step. I'm working on getting it paid for through medical assistance. The one I am looking at is over $600!!!! You can go to http://www.convaid.com and check them out. Then click on med supply stores in your area. I'll let you know how I make out with this!! Donna

Guest guest
Thanks Donna, We are working on an enclosed bed for right now. That is taking some jumping through hoops! Why do they have to make it so difficult. Aren't things difficult enough? Our insurance person said an enclosed bed is considered furniture. I have no idea who would consider it furniture. I can think of some really nice furniture for $6000.00 but an enclosed bed is sure not on my list! Silly, I think anyway. Guest guest
Donna, Where did you find one for $600. We purchased a Convaid last year for $1500. And now I need a new one. It's bent and in the brochure it said up to 100 lbs, but on the stroller itself it says up to 66 lbs. We got our insurance to pay for it last year, but $600 which one are you looking at? Guest guest
I know I've seen this type of thing talked about before, but for the life of me can't find it. I am looking into getting Audrey a larger stroller. She's pretty well out-grown the normal umbrella stroller that we have, but she needs something for when we are out doing a lot of walking because she complains of not just her toes hurting, but her entire foot. Part of me feels like by getting her a stroller for her age, that I'm admitting that the arthritis has won this battle - it's taken her ability to walk long distances like other normal kids. But then another part of me says that it's just another something to make her life easier and it's not a big deal. But anyways, I digress.... Does anyone have any ideas? She's about 3 1/2 feet tall about 45 pounds. I'd like something that could possibly grow with her for a little while but isn't hundreds and hundreds of dollars. Guest guest
~ I am in the process of getting my son a 'big kid' aka special needs stroller. He is just turned six but only weighs 38 pounds and is pretty tall...we have been using a regular Inglesina stroller I got when he was an older toddler. He has sensory issues as well so he likes the 'security' of a stroller...but he is just way too tall for it now. Anyway...check with your insurance company and see if you have durable medical equipment coverage. I discovered I get $1500 a year so I am working with our pediatrician (and got the rheumy's OK) to get him something like this... http://www.adaptivemall.com/mainbug.html the Maclaren Major. It goes up to 140 pounds. We will go to a physical therapist where my son gets therapy for eating issues to get her input...per the pedi. But I have heard great things about the Major...and to be honest, I like that it doesn't look like a wheelchair. That's something I am not yet mentally ready to deal with. The rheumy feels we may end up not needing it...we start Enbrel this weekend...but since I've met the deductible already for this year, I figure we should get it....just in case. Since his poly impacts toes on both feet, his right knee and both hips (both elbows and shoulders too) walking any distance can be tough. Good luck, and , 6, poly (04/09) plus a bunch of other stuff
