5 days and counting

Hi there! I just wanted to take a moment and introduce myself. Hubby and I

have decided to make some changes18 hou to stay healthy do something

together. I picked up the book at the library after seeing an article in my

Dad's " Modern Maturity " magazine and I read it to my husband on our 18 hour

drive to a cruise. We read it again on the way home 10 days later and

ordered or shakes and challenge guides the day after Christmas. We went and

bought a treadmill, bike and some weights and prepared to begin the

challenge on January first. Hubby, Stan is 35 and just wants to lose a few

pounds and become more defined, I on the other hand have struggle with my

weight for years and have about 100 to lose. I am tired of the way I look

and feel! I have tried various things and haven't stuck with it due to

distractions and true lack of commitment.

We are so excited to find the bodies we once had and we Welcome and

Stan. You will not regret the choice you made and the lifestyle you will

create. All the best! Kit

GOOD LUCK TO YOU WENDY!!! You are in great hands with Dr. Aceves and

his team of people. You will love the gentleness of and his

team of nurses also. Yolanda is the best....being like a mother hen

with her darling little chicks...being us!! If you are so honored as

I was to meet Nina, she is wonderful too. She lives about 3 hours

away from Mexicali so sometimes she is not there to greet

people.....understandbly.

I will be thinking of you.

I'm scheduled to do pre-ops on the Oct 3. Looks like

we will be there at the same time!

I'm excited and nervous at the same time. I'm having

troubles with the pre-op diet. That makes me worried.

Dear Tim,

What type of difficulties are you having with the preop diet? Let us

know what the issues are, and I am sure that someone on the list

here will have some suggestions for you on how to cope!

Best Wishes,

P.

Tim: I was banded on Monday- Sept. 25. Yes, the Pre Op diet was

rather difficult for me, but don't let it freak you out. All the

anxiety and nervousness was mostly put to ease by the staff there at

the clinic. The nurses and doctors were really friendly and

understanding. You will find the whole experience a postive one.

The most difficult was the the immediate recovery time from surgery.

I was pretty groggy and in some pain. With constant walking and

breathing exercises I have started to recover nicely. I still have

some gas and shoulder pain, but they say that will go away. Now the

challenge is getting use to all the liquids for the next several

weeks and learning to understand the needs of my body in regards to

hunger, etc.

Words of advice: pack light (I took too much). Don't forget to take

slippers to the hospital. You may also want to take a nice robe or

pajamas.

Good Luck --

time is moving rather quickly and Monday will soon be here. That means I return

to the hospital for my knee replacement. I am getting nervous given my problems

with anesthesia but I know it must be done. When I cant go to the mall, grocery,

walk at the river, etc without wanting to fall over in a matter of 5 minutes its

time. The knee has been injected 8 times and it just doesnt work as well so the

only option is a new knee or a new chair and being a bit stubborn I am taking

the surgery option. For anyone who has been through the knee surgery send all

the good stuff. LOL I have met with anesthesia at the hospital and our first

plan is to do an epidural, if for some reason it does not take we will attempt

and awake intubation so please wish me luck. I have a call in to my docs

tomorrow to make sure I am a go due to this horrible, lagging cold. I still have

a scratchy throat and mild cough so I hope we can proceed.

Funny thing is doc said after this surgery I can ride a bike, which I have not

done in years and best of all ?I can swim...lmao, I have not swam in my entire

life due to inability?so I told the doc I cant wait...doc said silly girl you

have to know how first....oh well...guess I wont be swimming....

Hi Donna,

Just a few days away, now! Your fears are definitely understandable but you've

carefully considered this. You've weighed the risks versus benefits. Sought the

advice of doctors you trust. You've done all your homework.

I just hope that this time around, the intubation procedure will go much more

smoothly - and the surgery itself too, of course. That last experience was

really quite frightening, even for those of us who weren't anywhere near your

hospital. This time, hopefully, there will be no surprises and no complications.

Once you've recuperated, I think you should join an aquatics class at the local

Y. Then, sign up for swimming lessons!

In our thoughts,

, running , you bet. Swimming, not so sure. The one time I did sign up for

Y water classes it was quite hilarious. A friend and I decided it would be fun

to join the water walk class. This class consisted of tai chi type exercises

along with pool walking. This meant the entire pool, not only the shallow end.

Not being able to keep myself above water in anything over 5 foot I knew it

would be a challenge but what the hey. I put on a swim belt, like the one they

put on kiddies in the swim lesson classes so I knew I would be ok. WRONG! I

think I am the first and only person who went under the water with the safety

belt on!! The lifeguard and class leader were distraught and now I know the

shame of being kicked out of class! That was many years ago and today I am still

traumatized. LOL. The odd thing is I love water.....so long as it is not over my

head....

I love to go boating, and sit and walk the shorelines but swim.....maybe

someday...
